HowlVoid
Hello everyone, welcome to my channel. Now before you groan about another speed released post- Oh, too late? You're already typing and angry comment? Here you go: Anyways, today I have a bit of a stupid concept only a moron like me could come up with: Can Wolfgang be played in two different states by two different players? Before that lets talk about perk overlap, what it is and why it's actually important. A couple of characters in the game have similar perks that on the surface seem like redundancy of something a different character can already do. Wx-78 and Wormwood both have innate speed increases. Wormwood, Maxwell, Wigfrid, and with some help, Wurt can all manage their sanity with ease. Wormwood and Wurt both have rain protection. I could go on and on... Where am I going with this? At the start of a server there may be item scarcity, soon to be change in season and just overall a lot of unpredictability. These overlaps are to promote sharing if there is a character in need of sanity you give them the Tam if others can manage, if there is a lack of rain protection you give Wx-78 the eyebrella if others can manage, if the there is a lack of Mctusk tusks you give them the cane if others can manage the lack in speed, and so on and so on. But why speed and in what form? Speed and strength are actually a unique pairing when it comes to a fighter. Wigfrid- Has damage and resource management in her kit that grows exponentially with every added player. Wendy- Has both single target and crowd control in her kit with an unmatched ability in collecting small monster items. Warly- Can share a higher damage potential which also grows exponentially with every player added. Wanda- Most independent character in the game who needs nothing from no one. Old Wolfgang- A unique combination of both damage and speed. Fitting for powerful Goliath meant to take down bosses on his own. Rather confusing for some to say that speed does not fit his kit when undiluted power will only have diminishing returns in multiplayer and brings less to the table than those characters listen above. Speed solves this because it allows Wolfgang to use that damage and save the utilities for the rest of the server. Not only this but Wolfgang can solo bosses without the need of those utilities allowing for a good player to provide a server boss items on his own. Ok, let's stop dwelling in the past. I think I have come up with a away for Wolfgang to both remain the same and get some of old utility back, but not at the same time. Let Wolfgang have a 10% speed boost when the chest slot is empty and Wolfgang is mighty. (Maybe 15% if Klei feels generous) So simple, and yet so small it seems insignificant. Almost like I'm trying to bring back speed at all cost, but that's not the case. "That sounds stupid", I hear you say, but let me explain. This allows Wolfgang to have some duality and give some flexibility between the current players arguing on both sides as well as some minor utility and important perk overlap with other characters. This would improve the cohesion among his current perks while also not outshining them or dominating Wolfgang's playstyle. Let's break it down: From spawn: Wolfgang has a slow start and immediately falls into competition for resources with other characters. The starting need for rocks and gold in the surrounding areas are needed for the first basic structures and unique crafts other characters can make (Wigfrid crafts, science machine, bird cage, fire pit, etc). All of this while Wolfgang needs to remain near mighty for the first hound wave on the basic dumbbell. While saving the resources for the basic backpack for other players, Wolfgang can set off on his own pumping iron and seek his own starting resources. This improves Wolfgang and the players independence. On the other hand: Solo and Speedrunners can play the start of the game while rushing bosses without the need of a backpack, which still has a moderate skill ceiling. What's more the luxury of a magiluminecent is still relevant and irreplaceable (and doesn't stack). To Chest slot or not to Chest slot Here is where a divergence can occur without one being no more efficient than the other. Are you a casual Wolfganger? Piggybacker Are you wanting to save resources? Marble suit. Wanda took all the marble? Take off your piggyback and kite at a slightly higher proffiency. Are you a Speedrunner? Can play with no chestslot the whole game. Are you needing to move a lot of heavystuff around like giant veggies? Having to constantly put away the cane (maybe you don't even have one) or lots of backtracking is slightly mitigated as you move stuff for yourself or your friends. All playstyles are Valid and different, that is what I want to encourage with this suggestion. Why 10%? Well let's not pretend Wolf is the same burden with 2x-3x food intake. This will reintroduce speed as more of a quality of life addition that gives Wolfgang more versatility and freedome to those who play him, while also not being "meta". Thanks for coming to my TED talk and please respect the opinions that are different than yours. Just because someone is stubborn doesn't mean they're stupid (except me), they're just passionate. Just as passionate as you :). (YES ILL SHUT UP ABOUT SPEED NOW. The rework is right around the corner and I'll rest knowing I did what I could. Anyways, peace.) JosePapp
You know what? This I can actually kind of see, it's a nice compromise since you're just ridding yourself of the chest slot, require to be mighty and it doesn't afect most players since it's really minor (and how I pictured the speed boost back then lol) If it's ever coming back, it's this way. Toroic
I don’t think anyone would choose to give up their chest slot for 10-15% speed. Why not? 10% is great for early exploration and 10% when most just have a football helmet for bosses (backpack is kinda just there) is already an improvement. A lot of people give up their chest slot already for some weather protection gear. When running around your base, when dropping your backpack nearby and running from statue to statue in the ruins, etc. You're thinking too narrowly, just like when you thought that better mining made no sense to Wolfgang :). oh and people have rushed AG just for the speed buff of the thulecite club, which is 10%. Cloakingsumo198
I like this idea as it allows Wolfgang versatility in how he approaches certain battles, even a small speed boost is useful for those near miss dodges and it allows an early game boost. Most people only use helmets for armor anyways Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/136186-the-duality-of-wolfgang-my-final-bid-for-some-sped/#findComment-1523964 Share on other sites
