Cloakingsumo198
I think it's been almost 8 years since DST had its first closed beta, when beta keys were needed to play, and it was the beginning of multiplayer. The early years could be described as rough to say the least. Noobs everywhere, griefers EVERYWHERE, you couldn't trust anyone lol, bases burned as soon as they popped up, willows were extremely iffy, a fresh Wilson was like a coin flip if they were there to either burn you, or just a new player. Elitism, for some reason this was extremely prevalent I don't know what caused this, people generally were hostile to new players and I'm sure it was part of why griefers we're rampant back then. The players were split and it was like the wild west. Nowadays I see people as being way more friendly, and less serious about the game, the overall average skill level has gone up and the edgy elitism slowly got quieter and quieter. People are more willing to extend a hand to one another, and the whole attitude to each other is just more friendly and open. I missing playing with l33t players, I knew back in the day, most of those people were veterans from the original don't starve and had alot to teach about the overall game back when I was a newb most have moved on though. But it's out with the old in with the new, I'll say I like where this community stands now even if it can still feel like a house divided at times. Sinister_Fang
Although I prefer the experience we have today, the anarchy of the early days was fun from time to time. Warpspeed10
I think back fondly to the closed beta days where you could float around as a ghost, and raise an army of fellow undead. Then take your ghost hoard and start decimating every living thing in sight. Szczuku
So it's not about the beta of dst (since I've only been playing since Heart of the Ruins update) but I just wanted to say that I have really fond memories of the original Forge. First of all let me start by saying that back then I had issues between dst and my Pc's firewall which prevented me from having any long-lasting solo worlds. So a possibility to finally play the game, and in such a unique way, was very welcome. You got to experience the griefing, the noobs, everyone testing new strategies and working together to get achievements once again (as above posts have said this also happened during the beta of dst) The Forge was probably the single best update dst has ever received. It has completely changed main menu and the way item collection worked. I mean just open the game and go to your Curio Cabinet. Do you see the Vignettes, Profile Icons, Portrait Backgrounds and Emoticons tabs? These arrived with the Forge, as well as Spoons. Previously you'd only receive random (mostly garbage) items. 'Here's your 1357th Pleated Shirt. Go ahead and trade 9 of them to get your 463rd Trench Coat'. But now? You can actually weave the skins you want. Just be patient. Not to mention that Klei's creativity with skins has gone up since the Forge. Just go to your Belongings and scroll down to the original Forge skins. What do you see below? A bunch of skins which you cannot weave, most of which are for the same item. Then Forge arrived, allowed us to weave item skins and jump-started Klei's creativity when it comes to them, now many more unique items have skins (more or less). Not to mention the world building. Original Vignettes revealed some lore about the survivors. And I mean... it was durring the Forge that we've learned dst's dimension's true name- The Constant. It was also the first time we got a serious 'current times'-type of lore. New Reign was kinda... just 'a step' of lore, Charlie took the Throne and new stuff appeared in the Constant. Forge made us wonder what will happen to the survivors? Will they visit other dimentions? And visit they did. Gorge- another great event, with great lore, world building and skins. Just like the Forge, I also have fond memories of that event. Too bad that Klei just decided to pretend it all never happened. A year of silence after the Gorge and then RoT begun out of nowhere with absolutely no connection to the gateway arc. That was before Tencent and the pandemic so there is no justification for Klei screwing up this badly.
