StormofSilence
I would like an option to set radiation effects in the same way as you can set options for food, stress and such. Radiation has added many new things to ONI. To me personally the way it's implemented it's more of a pain than a fun new thing to play around with. What I used to be able to do before radiation now suddenly has radiation added to it to make it harder and more complex. Like now you suddenly need radiation in order to do the research needed to discover how to make a gas grill. This just feels like creating a problem in order to push your solution. Weezes becoming a little radioactive was fine, Weezes now being significantly radioactive has become a problem. Waste is problem. Dupes getting sick is a problem. Fun new things you can do with this new feature seems to be absent. One might say that problem solving is fun, and to an extent this is true. Personally I would prefer it to be more a late game problem. blakemw
I would support the addition of radiation difficulty, that basically modifies how prone dupes are to getting radiation sickness to similiar proportions as hunger difficulty. So basically the easiest difficulty is 100% radiation resistance (immune). Then 50% radiation resistance, this means dupes need to absorb twice as many rads to get sick, of course they still cleanse at the normal rate, so it really takes more than twice as many rads to overcome the cleansing rate. Then -50% radiation resistance, and -100% radiation resistance for hard and hardest. But this difficulty setting should be multiplicative not additive with other radiation resistance modifiers, otherwise the lead suit wouldn't be very useful on high difficulty, while high difficulty should encourage using such solutions. Of course I want this difficulty setting for the doubled radiation, since even with the new settings radiation is still pretty much best handled by ignoring it until dupes are sick and then letting them poop it out. Actually "needing" to use things like rad pills to get even basic radiation work done would be a nice chance of pace. Sasza22
ONI is a game about finding solutions to problems so new problems are kinda expected. I guess the radiation stuff feels a bit forced and without much stuff you can do with it. But really just a handful of wheezeworts is enough to do your research safely without harming your dupes or creating any waste if handled correctly. It`s easy to overreact to the dangers. Dueps don`t get really sick until the does is really high. The minor sickness does as much as food poisoning. Still an option to turn it off like germ based diseases wouldn`t hurt anyone. The thing is there`s not much cool stuff to do with radiation. Other things we unlock with progress like plastic or glass give us interesting design options while radiation just has the diamond maker and plant mutations. Would be cool to have some sort of alchemy machine for transmuting elements, a buildable teleporter or something for regular use like a radbolt powered cooking machine or recreation thingy. Yobbo
Well that was fast. From the latest public testing patch notes: Quote You can now adjust the radiation difficulty when starting a new game. It looks like it works pretty much as blakemw suggested, as a modifier on the amount dupes are affected by radiation, which can be lowered or raised just like the other game settings. According to the tooltip it affects both how much radiation dupes can absorb before they get sick, and their recovery rate.
