More world generation options or at least display features in selected seed of asteroid cluster

Recommended Posts

Most often the playing experience is limited by the seed you chose to play. With standard ONI there was even a website to display nice seeds to use, and many of us got frustrations already with the seed in some playthrough.

Of course, the more options we can get in the worldgen, the better instead of re-rolling the seed to check what we got.

An idea would be to set up a filter of features that are desired, and features that are not desired, and the world gen will keep discarding seeds until it gets one that fits the request (I know, it might take a while trying one random seed at a time). Still, that is much better than having absolutely nothing to help it. Do we really need to keep creating websites to log thousands of seeds, just because the game is not complete enough to do that?

Other alternative is...

Would it be possible that the new game window shows the list of features that the given asteroid cluster provides, before we start the game?

For example I would like to have a way to know what types of volcanoes / geysers we have on each asteroid, and which plants and critters can be seen.

Examples of issues with worldgen seeds:

- my current playthrough was prior to the Unexplained traits update, and has no volcano or minor volcano (so I could not get a renewable source of igneous rock).-

- I am looking for another seed to play, I got two I am interested, but I haven´t seen an aluminium volcano in there

- Just another post in this same forum people complaining that there are no pips anywhere in the asteroid cluster (so without seeing one you also won´t get it from the printer)

Is each world generated randomly each time it gets discovered, or the main seed determines them already?

It is random but has some guaranteed geysers. Biomes are set per planetoid/start but the DLC is still early access so there can be things missing.

Some people want to know nothing (a random start using random traits) and some people want to know everything (what biomes/geysers every planetoid has). I'm somewhere in the middle. When I want to know everything, I spawn several worlds/saves just to sandbox-reveal and see what is where but when I want to play a survival playthrough, I don't want to know every geyser I will have available and just explore/discover as I go.

I've made some lists of biomes per start because I noticed some things missing but I could be missing more things

I was just questioning that if people have so much trouble with world gen, maybe one of the missing things in the game is a better configuration (or a better way to select which seed you want), and this is what I wanted to point. I agree each player wants a different level of info, but that is just a matter of how the info can be omitted by default unless the player wants to see it :).

So if you don´t like what you see in the planetoid, you can still load an older save and discover that planetoid again? I guess I will test it.

I did a test here, loaded 3 times an initial savegame (Before anything was done - seed V-SWMP-C-701624795-0), and the 2nd planetoid when discovered had exactly the same geysers, so I think geyser definition along with all worlds generation is done at the same time (fixed generation for a given seed).

This means you currently have to play quite a while to even find out what you got on your map... if you don´t like, you will get frustrated.

No, sorry for the misunderstanding.... I meant there are some random geysers for each generated seed that can be different on different seeds. A specific seed has specific geysers and everything else that spawn (critters, biomes)

They could go the route of dst where they added tons of worldgen options. We already have some minimal customization options for hunger and stress settings. It could be expanded to include the amounts and types of geysers spawned, ther could also be an checkbox to show all the geysers per planetoid.
