syngen
I've tried looking in the forums already, but all I get is how many steam turbines to cool an aquaturner. I'm building big blocks of steam turbines, one around my rocket silos, and one to cool magma. I'm limiting the heat to 200C under each turbine. So how many full bore steam turbines can be cooled by the single aquatuner? The turner will be in one of the steam rooms too, if that makes any difference. Addition: I am running aluminium radiant pipes, and only polluted water atm, I havn't got far enough into space. Also what would the numbers be like after I get super coolant? many thanks Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/134708-how-many-steam-turbines-can-be-cooled-by-1-aquatuner/ Share on other sites
Yobbo
The wiki has good info on this sort of thing. https://oxygennotincluded.fandom.com/wiki/Steam_Turbine https://oxygennotincluded.fandom.com/wiki/Thermo_Aquatuner One steam turbine at full capacity will delete around 878kDTU/s of heat from the steam. It will produce 10% of this, plus a flat 4kDTU/s. So around 92kDTU/s per turbine which requires cooling. An aquatuner cooling water can shift about 585kDTU/s. That'll cool about 6 full-power turbines. For supercoolant it's about twice that, going by the numbers on the wiki. Ruyuto
Heat output by steam turbines depends on the temperature of the steam. With steam temperature of 200°C, each steam turbine produces around 91.76kDTU/s of heat (go to the link to see the heat generated for different steam temperatures). An aquatuner running supercoolant shifts 1181.6kDTU/s of heat. Thus, 1 aquatuner running supercoolant can cool at most 12.8 steam turbines with a steam temperature of 200°C. In actual applications you might want to go with less than that as there are some heat transfer between your steam room and the turbines. gabberworld
10. should be ok. atleast that what i get last time when i tested. if you have over 220c steam. you should think off start close vents anyway Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/134708-how-many-steam-turbines-can-be-cooled-by-1-aquatuner/#findComment-1507096 Share on other sites
gabberworld
there not always need use the aquatuner tho for cooling, for example this if you have polluted water geyser 30c and you want the Pincha Pepperplant farm, you could then transfer steam turbine heat to there i think i seen also -10c polluted water geyser. that would be even better for this situation Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/134708-how-many-steam-turbines-can-be-cooled-by-1-aquatuner/#findComment-1507122 Share on other sites
syngen
I'm controlling the heat coming in with the usual door setup, so it will always be 200c in the steam rooms, so 92kDTUs then, thanks. Looks like I was correct in using aluminium too, thank god for those 2 volcanos as I'm going to need a lot!! I dont have any polluted water vents on my map. But I do get what you're talking about. Using existing heat/cold sources to complete other tasks without using extra power. I'm doing similar with my constant hot petroleum from my boiler. On it's way to the generators its heating my pepperfarm water; roasting pokeshells; cooking dirt and creating my sauna steam. many thanks guys Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/134708-how-many-steam-turbines-can-be-cooled-by-1-aquatuner/#findComment-1507333 Share on other sites
