WX Rework idea.

Hello guys!
I really love this game, and I think that the reworks all do a great job, making characters more unique & different from one another and also fun!
No one playstyle feels like the same, and it made me think about how older characters pre-rework mostly revolve around the same gimmick, which is fighting. 
WX, Wigfrid, Wolfgang and now even Wanda all are taking the offensive role. 
So, I thought about what will Klei do with WX's rework and I came up with a fun idea which will still let him remain offensive, but also feel unique, so I thought I'd suggest it here.
The idea came to me while looking at the "Enlightened Crown", which has a withdrawable menu with 5 equip slots that you can socket spores into!

I thought - well, since WX is a robot, what if instead of wearing armor, he too will have such slots?
Here's my idea:

WX will have 5 "armor" slots instead of regular armor, he can equip up to 2 gems, as well as gears.
(Some gem combinations are not allowed due to logic and due to being overpowered together)
(The UI should be retractable much like how the Sea Fishing Rod's/Enlightened Crown's are.)

Socketable items and their effects:
  • Red Gem - WX radiates heat and provides a small radius of light, meat put within his inventory slots will instantly be cooked, other players can use WX as a stove (heat thermal stones, cook food, etc).
    On hit - WX has 50% of burning the enemy.(Like a fire staff)
    (Cant be equipped with Blue Gem)
  • Blue Gem - WX radiates "cold", his inventory slots will now work like an ice box, and can also cool off thermal stones.
    On hit - WX has 25% of freezing the enemy. (Like an ice staff.)
    (Cant be equipped with Red Gem)
  • Purple Gem - WX radiates sanity reduction, but his damage is boosted by 1.25.
    (Cant be equipped with iridescent gem)
  • Orange Gem - WX gains 25% increase in speed and can teleport once every 10 seconds.
    (Cant be equipped with green/yellow gem)
  • Yellow Gem - WX enters "overcharged" mode (light aura + speed increase)
    (Cant be equipped with orange/green gem)
  • Green Gem - WX armor protection goes up to 90%, but in turn - he loses 10% speed (Similar to marble suit).
    On death - WX will revive once on spot without dropping his items. (1 full day of CD).
    (Cant be equipped with orange/yellow gem)
  • Iridescent Gem - WX provides a sanity aura, his sanity bar switches into a Lunacy bar even when he's not on the lunar island.
    (Can't be equipped purple gem).
  • Fish - If WX puts a fish into one of his sockets, he will constantly get wet, but he can walk next to Merms as if he was wearing a disguise provided by Wurt. Pigs will also aggro on him. (Just thought it might be a funny addition.)
  • Gears - Each gear WX will equip will provide him with an extra set amount of max health, sanity and hunger like it does now, but also provide him with 3 inventory slots and 10% armor per gear.
    (To make up for his lack of armor slot and as such, and thus his inability to equip backpack/armor.)
    (The armor provided by gears cannot exceed 85% for balancing reasons)
  • WX will naturally get 50% armor protection from the get-go due to his "heavy plating".
    *WX cannot gain armor from other sources such as helmets.
 
More Balancing & Different ideas:
  • Gems being destroyed after use - I thought that gems might be slowly consumed, and "shatter" after 3 days of use, but Im not sure whether or not this is a good idea, you tell me!
  • Refuelable Gems - Another option is to have them as refuelable due to their value, and let them be recharged with nightmare fuel. (Aside from the Iridescent gem which should be charged with Moongleam, in my opinion.)
  • Cores - Some friend I discussed that with also suggested that instead of plain gems, WX might want to use a craft-able core that you can socket gems into (Much like theimage.png.701e5453bf5942d00e0288945e6260ab.png "Cratered Moonrock")  , which will be made using gold/flint/nitre/rocks/frazzled wires/whatever.
    I like this idea, and it might work better with the second bullet option (Refuelable gems).
    -different tiers of cores might exist, which will make gems last longer or even have more effects. (Such as nitre, thulecite and moonglass cores)
    -Once the cores reach 0% - the current gem that was in them will pop out and they'd have to be recharged before you can use them again.
    -Nitre cores recharge with electricity (Voltgoats, lightning rods, Wicker's spells, and morning stars.)
    -Thulecite cores recharge with nightmare fuel. 
    -Moonglass cores recharge with Moonglass/Moongleam.
    -Some abiltiies might be gated behind higher tier cores. (So red/blue gems wont be too "OP" due to how easy they are to acquire)
"General benefits":
  • Give the Iridescent gem a new usage.
  • Make each WX-87 feel unique and different from one another. ( Even if two are on the same server)
  • Make WX a party support as well as a damage dealer like he is now.
  • Save gears as WX could equip and unequip them whenever needed! (And also technically need less of them)

 

The idea is not the most refined, I know, but I think that the general concept might provide Klei with some fun ideas! :)

i actually like this idea a lot, especially the equippable cores. however i don't think wx-78 should be unable to equip a backpack, and maybe he can equip some kind of a robot arm (maybe craftable with 5 gears+10 thulecite fragments+something expensive?) in his hand slot, and the cores can be placed in this item. with some proper balancing, i personally believe that klei might consider implementing your idea my friend.

 

edit: in their animated short, i want winona, maxwell and wickerbottom to stop wx from going on a murderous killing spree and reboot their system with some engineering and some shadow magic before they kill all the survivors.

It's sad that klei probably won't take such a specific idea because I absolutely adore the concept. 

I'd love him to have a crafting tab with gem related cores that go into a special forth slot just for wx. Not sure what the full craft is but it should be experience, and cores should loose durability. 

Here is my take on the gems balance:

Red core - provides aoe heat similar to thermal stones on the ground, wx78 can be used as a campfire to cook food on him, fire resistance 75%, thermals stones heat up in inventory Food spoils faster in inventory. 

Blue core - pretty mutch what you said. Inventory icebox + aoe cooling for the boys. 

Purple core -  perks of old Wanda aka more damage from dark sword, no sanity loss from said sword and night armor, resistance to sanity loss from magic staffs. May seem unoriginal but Wanda never uses her perk on dark swords anyways so why not. 

Orange core - 33% more efficiency to mining, hammering and chopping. 

Yellow core - new way to overcharge (please no more sound).

Green core - adds 50% more to max hunger, hp and sanity (changes based on gears consumed).

Iridescent core - lunacy + great light source like plugged in celestial staff, sanity aura like moon fissues for players nearby.
