Is partially/tamed Beefalo via Bell supposed to "lay" babies?

Recommended Posts

So, given we have "Year of the Beefalo" event currently active on game's main branch, I decided for the 2nd time ever to try and tame a Beef for "$hits & giggles" (if one must know how my 1st attempt went a long time ago, I can attest it certainly ended up quite well... meats on racks & all that, yum!) - mostly out of curiosity for how well of a process it was improved via Beefalo Bell. Thus I've picked a random animal from some herd, bonded it with Bell (name's "Jack $hit" if one may ask, very manly-man name to be proud of), hopped into nearest Cave because spelunking life ftw and started stuffing it. Potatoes exceedingly, with some hard twigs for good measure. Made a basic-b|tch Saddle, because am a magnificent cheapskate bastard, and off I went to mass-murder spiders, Werepiggies and more, thinking Constant's high heavens will reward me many days later with an Ornery. Rewarded I was indeed, not with what I wanted but with what I deserved apparently: winter came, Beef went in heat and suddenly a small Baby was trailing my murderous adventures. "Guess you're Jackleene then, eh..". And before you sickos out there anticipated baby ending on racks as well, nope: I surprised myself with a healthy dose of benevolence and let Bebe Boof be. Too bad (good?) Bebe cloned itself. Once, then twice, and in no-time I had a new herd in my Cave base. Neat, right?! Except next random mating season, Jackleene popped yet another Bebe that went marry go-round my Bee farm to plop a 2nd Beef Cave herd. Fun bee-times, mostly in spring.

My question: is this an intended mechanic? Shouldn't Beefs bonded with Bell be excepted from "laying" eggs babies?!

Since as of now I/we have 2 options: "tenderly" kill all new babies or let them be, overpopulating like Rock Lobsters did in past on DS Forest shard world. (Btw: I salute, as a parenthesis, this Bell way of getting beefs into caves. If un-bonded by choice, players can save/make their desired herds in the safety of Caves from giants prying preying eyes).

PS: this aspect has already been underlined in a previous thread: My beefalo had a baby. (many congratulations included)

They do, but they probably shouldn’t...

instant herds Wherever you want them is too op.

Klei needs to rework how herds are formed to be more like Ark Survival Evolved- meaning you need mate two creature near each other to produce offspring.
