DesktopMan
Dupes pick the destination container based on their current location when starting the sweep job instead of the container closest to the item being swept. This has been discussed before but never addressed. The only way to fix this manually is to micro manage container priorities every time you sweep, which I don't think is intended gameplay. Containers have the same priority Both containers are all + sweep only A dance as old as time. (At least since early early access)

The consensus was that adressing it requires rewriting parts of the game engine and might be problematic at this point. Basically it`s the container requesting a job from the dupe so the dupe will do the job for the closer container, even if overall path is longer. The same logic is used for all deliver tasks so adding extra claculations affects the entire game.

The players are not developing this game, nor is the game open source, so what is hard or isn't is very hard to judge. This forum should stick to gameplay, that whole other thread on this was ridiculous. The game constantly peepers you with "long commutes" notifications, many of which you can do absolutely nothing about.

The notification is bad. It shouldn`t count trave time if it`s delivery and probably should only happen above 50% not 40%. And you can actually do a lot to reduce the travel time when designing your base. Tiles that increase move speed, fire poles, transit tubes. It`s not like we can`t do anything about it. We just can`t change the coding and from what we know it`s unlikely to change the storage bin behaviour. All we can do about that is try to play around it to minimize the effect. bobucles
There are plenty of ways to hack out a solution. The simplest one is to let the dupe recalculate their storage job after picking up an item. Suddenly the closest, high priority storage gets chosen. Not only that but they'll continue sweeping an area after picking up the first item (since storage jobs target a small area), so they can collect many tiny piles at once. It's probably not the cleanest solution and there will be problems if the dupe gets otherwise interrupted, but at least they'll drop off at the closest storage.
