Arbor Trees and Pips

I am trying to figure out how many trees are needed to feed pips. Notably wild trees for tamed and happy pips. This is where my problem comes in because it seems to me like a single wild tree can feed an entire stable of 8. A pip eats 400g per cycle. A wild tree grows 5 branches at once which are 300kg each when harvested. Which is 18 kg per cycle per branch. Far more than a pip needs. Is it really this easy to feed a stable of pips?

Are you sure they eat the branches, not growth from the tree itself?

I did some experiment on them. My original plan was growing arbor tree 1% or 2%, then see how much calories pips gain from that. But it turn out they didn't want to eat partially grown arbor tree.

They eating branches indeed. 23% branch growth for 260kcal. Because tooltip said 9% growth per cycle for 100kcal

9/23*260=101.7 probably just rounding error.

Because wild arbor branches need 18 cycles to be fully grown and pips need 9% per cycle, each pip only needs 1.62 branches. Meaning 1 wild arbor tree with 5 branches growing should sufficient to feed about 3 happy pips.

 

Last test, how much they will get with low calories in stomach? I hope didn't suffer from similar bug as drecko.

Too bad, they suffer the same bug as drecko. Every time they eat their calories reset, no matter how much they eat. At the moment we can exploit this bug using a single wild arbor tree to feed a ranch of pips. There is a catch: they only eat when the branch at least 25% grown.

23%? Shouldn't it be 40%? A full grown tree is 5 branches, so 9% tree would be 40% branch (which would be consistent with the 0.4kg that the tooltip used to say).

 

In any case, a wild tree grows around 27% branch per day (1/18 day * 5 branches), so if they eat 23% you still come at around 1.2 pips for a wild tree. If it's 40% then you feed 0.67 pips per wild tree. Assuming the feeding was working right instead of a full reset.

First experiment shown that they eat a branch from fully grown down to 77%, which increase his calories from 740kcal to 1000 kcal. Their metabolism 100kcal per cycle for 9%, so it should be 260/100*9 = 23.4%. Some rounding in game display omitted,

0.4kg which is what the tooltip used to say before the % change. People in other threads had theorized it meant 40% branch and the branches counted as 1kg. And  1 full tree = 5 full branches. Each branch is therefore 20% of a tree. 40% of 20 is 8% which was close to that 9%

Right, I see. You're thinking 9% of a branch. I thought that it might be 9% of a TREE. But your experiment sure as hell points to it being 9% of a branch. Perhaps instead of seeing the kcal we should see the poop, how much did they poop after eating 23% of a branch? They should in theory poop 20kg of dirt per "serving size", so if it's really 9% branch then that 23% bite should've given you something like 50kg of dirt, but if it's 9% tree it should be a poop of around 10kg.
