Sweeper need ability to steal errand from dupes

Recommended Posts

I don't remember how many suggestions about this over the year, but I decided to give it push once again.

How often players frustration when their dupes running from surface to base, just deliver food under the grill to a refrigerator just beside the grill, despite there is sweeper arm on top of the grill? Setting refrigerator priority to 1, closing all refrigerator inside closed space, among other workarounds that player came up with is not good enough from a game perspective. Didn't mean to belittle any of those workaround, but each of those has limitation.

There are a few alternatives which devs can choose:

  • Allow sweeper to steal errand from dupes, but not from another sweeper. Devs made (unintentional) dupe can steal other dupe errands when launch testing started, which fixed with an early hotfix. You can put it to good use in this case.
  • Higher priority for sweeper to get errand alone won't solve this problem, IMO. Imagine there is 2 debris, sweeper take the first one. Second debris is dupe from surface running around. Sweeper idles after taking first debris.
  • Introduce new sweeper only priority beside 0-9 and alert alone also have a problem. Refrigerator beside grill have "sweeper only" priority, dupe from surface run back to take it to another refrigerator that he can reach.

If you still have time, please reconsider this one. Will this improvement good enough for devs limited time?

When dupes take the task over the sweeper it means the system searches for a dupe to do the task befroe it searches for a sweeper. If it was the other way around dupes would only take the task if the sweeper is already working. Otherwisew the sweeper would always be first to do the job, which makes sense as it doesn`t move.

Stealing jobs would help as well. Or a sweeper setting allowing for sweeper only operation of all buildings in range.
