Yep, an other tread on Wilson's rework

Recommended Posts

Yes, i know, i know... There is a lot of other discussions on the rework of our gentleman scientist.

But, now, i just want to show you all my thoughts.

First, we have to understand what is supposed to be Wilson. A character for beginners ? Maybe, his absence of drawbacks seems to be pretty explicit.

But, do he has to be only a character for beginner ?

The first answer is... Well, this is clearly subjective, but i think that almost each character in this game must to be designed for beginners and veterans (remember that this is only MY opinion), so each character must to have a certain part for beginners and an other one for veterans (except Wes, of course). For example, let's take Wolfgang. This character has a ''beginner part'', what is the increased hunger drain, more Hp than other characters and a wimpy form, but also a ''veterans part'', what is the damage bonus, more Hp than other characters and speed bonus.

See ? There are two ways to see a character. A beginner's way and a veteran's way.

But what about Wilson ? Well... This two points of view are identical : he has a beard. Done.

I think that i'm losing myself in these reflections, but i keep writing.

So, i think that our dear Wilson needs something else, to become a character for beginners and for veterans.

Let's start with his beard. There are plenty of tweaks conceivable, but i think these are the good ones :

1) Nerf other ways to have beard hair. Yep, you heard right. The beard produces this incredible ingredient for making the most powerful resurection item in the game ? Really cool ! If there wasn't two other easy ways to have some, which are beardlings and beardlords (no, no  Shadow Splumonkeys for me, thanks). With these two creatures, you don't even think that you may need a Wilson for gathering beard hair. And this has to change for me. My proposals are the following : beard hair drop should be 10% (currently 20%) for beardlings, 50% for beardlords (currently always 2) and always 1 for shadow splumonkeys (currently always one, but they are really dangerous, so it's fine). This way, next time we will gather beard hair, we will say ''It would be easier with a Wilson !''.

2) Resurection should always gives you the same lenght of beard when you activated the resurection tool. This is a more beginners's friendly one. For example, when you build a meat effigy day 6 and you die day 15, you wil resurect with a beard stage 1 (the short beard). Or with the life-giving amulet, your beard stage would be... The same he has when he died ? With the touchstone, same and with the heart, same ? I don't have many ideas with all these ways to resurect. It's a bit frustrating when you lose your beard, and it coul help some beginners to fight winter more easily.

And ? Is it all ? Just these two changes will raise Wilson to the top characters ? Obviously, no. We can't make Wilson a really interessant character only by tweaking his beard, it would be too easy, and i think this ability is currently pretty fine. So, here we are, Wilson needs a new ability. BUT, but but but, this new ability should be cool for beginners and veterans, without any huge drawbacks for new players, but useful for every type of player. And, as FuffledBeeQueen said it, an ability to make him a gentleman scientist, and not only a ''guyz with beard''.

After researchs, i found this, and this is really really cool :

But, i think it could be more... Powerful. So there is my version :

Now, Wilson can, by pressing a special button on the screen and in exchange of hunger, allows nearby players to prototype objects that he already prototyped.

Let me explain :

Imagine that a Wilson prototypes a backpack. He is happy and wanders in the Constant. Then, suddenly, a new player comes (let's say a Willow). The Willow gathers twigs, grass, flint, berries, rocks, carrots... And quickly, her pockets are full. But no gold on her screen, and she doesn't want to leave her precious ressources.

Would you believe, the Wilson comes. After greetings, the Willow asks politely the Wilson to craft her a backpack. But, maybe that she will need an other backpack later ? Or maybe she will lose it ? Or maybe it will mysteriously burn ? Well, letting other people build for you what you don't prototype isn't a good idea.

Then, the Wilson decides to click on a button on his screen (it could be a brain, a light bulb, a blueprint...). The Wilson now has a recognizable pose. The Willow approachs the Wilson, and miracle ! She can now prototype the backpack ! When she clicks on the ''prototype'' button, she now has the recipe for the backpack released, like if she was near a science machine, and obviously the backpack in her inventory. The Wilson just loses 5 hunger but gains also 15 sanity.

With this new ability, Wilson is now a real gentleman scientist. It is not powerful against giants, but useful to help people, as a cooperative game has to be.

End of my thoughts, don't forget that it is just ONE proposal among MANY other great ideas.
