Tungsten is so dissapointing

Recommended Posts

So, a long time ago when I found my first wolframite - I was all excited. Wolfram(tungsten) is the metal and with the highest melting point in the known universe: It melts at 3422 degrees Celcius! Way above steel. Wolfram awesome, and most material engineers have a certain love for it. So seeing the meager effects, and especially the lack of added overheat temperature made me a bit sad... It's not really a big thing, but I still have a tiny hope for tungsten to become the top-anti-overheat-dog. From a game design perspective it would, of course, need to be involved in a more complex recipe - but removing the pure tungsten as a usable material in itself and adding an alloy with various requirements like steel would be a great addition for all us tungsten lovers out here :D.

You mean like thermium?

It kinda seems weird that a low melting point metal (gold amalgam) has the overheat temp bonus instead of wolframite. But it did create a nice scenario before where you had 4 available metals and each had it`s own specific use.

Copper ore was saved for exosuits.

Gold amalgam was saved for overheat resistant stuff and later for oxylite production, sometimes in the midgame for less heat intensive metal refining like before you got oil as coolant.

Wolframite was saved for space usage since rocket heat won`t melt it. Tungsten is the only viable material for automation wires in the launch silo. Also useful for heat transfer from magma.

Iron was used for everything else, since it`s free once you breach space.

Now that we got new metals like lead and aluminum (and that exosuits don`t require copper ore anymore) i wish we get some sort of different usage for each metal again.
