Smart Gas & Liquid Reservoir

Recommended Posts

I am absolutely in love with the automation overlay. The power and flexibility of this thing is bonkers. I have many, many systems running together intelligently in my colonies, but one issue I run into time and time again is loops of some kind getting backed up. The solutions I've come up with to fix this are either brutal, such as simply dumping a liquid or gas into an empty room and measuring the fluid or pressure level, or incredibly complicated, such as a clocked "gap introducer" to leave spaces in a looping coolant line.

But there is an incredibly graceful solution which wouldn't stick out among the other buildings the game offers. The Smart Reservoir. It has an automation output, a % slider, and an "above/below" toggle. If, for example, you set it to "below 50%," it sends a true signal when the reservoir is half empty. This thing would turn so many frustratingly artificial problems (coolant lines backing up needing gap introducers!) into manageable logistical ones (place a reservoir on the line and introduce more coolant by automated valve if the reservoir falls below 30%). I think this thing would take me exactly as much farther as I would want to go without making the game easier or solving too much. It opens possibilities. I know you guys are in the homestretch, but I can't stop thinking about this. So many of my builds would be improved by this option. It feels weird that it isn't there.

Thanks for designing such a great game.
