Alebrant
Hi, I'm having some troubles when isolating my base from the heat from the surrounding biomes. I create insulated tiles made from igneous rock around my base. The problem is that the igneous rock use to be already hot, and when I create the insulated tiles they leak heat slooowly into the base. Cooling the insulated tiles takes forever, so I want to know how to pre-cool the material itself. I've think of dumping it into a water pool, or building normal tiles in a cooling water loop and then deconstructing them, but neigther of those approch seam to be good enough. Is there a better cool way of pre-cooling solid items? Thanks, in advance. Sasza22
Personally i use sandstone insulated tiles early on for that reason. Sandstone is usually much cooler even if it doesn`t insulate as good. As for precooling materials you got the right idea. Dropping it into water works the best but you`ll need to make sure all of it cools before you start making the insulated tiles or you restric access to the hot ones. There`s no way to tell the dupes to use material at a certain temperature so making sure they use the one you want can be tricky. If you have access to conveyor rails, then you can run the igneous rock through granite/metal tiles/doors that are in cold liquid. There is a hidden "multiply by 25" heat exchange factor when solid items pass through solid tiles on conveyors. You can use a tempshift plate to transfer heat between the tile/door and the cold liquid to keep the door cold. Then you can use the conveyor to rapidly transfer heat between the cold tile and the igneous rock that sits on your conveyor. Getting your dupes to select this pre cooled igneous rock to build all your insulation might be a pain (potentially lots of micromanaging - though probably not too bad). Here is a second option. Build your hot insulated tiles. Pre cool some other solid with high SHC in cold liquid using the conveyor rail idea described above. Then pass this cool high SHC item through your insulated tiles via a conveyor belt. This latter option requires a ton of conveyors. The point is to access the "multiply by 25" hidden heat transfer issue. Alebrant
Thaks for the answers. Didn’t even think about using sandstone but sounds great And I haven’t started to use conveyors yet, but I was going to build my first ones soon. Thanks for the “multiply by 25” trick Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/105361-how-to-pre-cool-solid-elements-item/#findComment-1186400 Share on other sites
