Lawnmower Man
Trying to automate my ranch and hatch eggs underwater. Unfortunately, it seems that eggs no longer hatch on rails, as I ended up with a lot of raw egg at the bottom of my pool. I know you can make a sweeper drop an egg in water, but this feels hacky/exploity to me. Anyone have a less hacky but automated way to move eggs underwater such that they will hatch? I'd rather have the meat than the raw egg. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/102121-eggs-on-rails/ Share on other sites
Neotuck
you can have the bottom of your ranch be phenumatic doors and have water underneath every time a critter lays an egg they fall right though Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/102121-eggs-on-rails/#findComment-1146521 Share on other sites
fishoutofwater
sorry for oot, if I just want egg shells better to store in storage than let it out, right? I thought I saw that happen once, but wasn't sure if a dupe had dropped the egg while carrying it. My first thought is to use Mech Doors for those and open them once a day to drop eggs. But then, if there's a hatch on one, they will also fall through. So then I thought I could put a mesh door *under* the mech door to catch the hatch. But if the mech door closes on it, will the hatch pop up, or will it be trapped? On vertical doors, it will definitely trap the hatch, but I haven't tried it on horizontal ones. I'm guessing it traps the bugger. Although, if a hatch gets stuck in a door, would that make a critter sensor think it's no longer in the room? If so, I could cycle the doors a bit...doesn't sound foolproof, but maybe it can work. Lawnmower Man
Ok, so I forgot that hatches don't fall through doors! This is a totally viable way to drown eggs, and you can build your entire floor with mech doors and open them once a day for a few seconds. This lets you build all the normal buildings in your stable, including incubators, etc. Then, just collect meat and eggs in the drowning pool, and send eggs to the incubator if the critter sensor says you are under pop. The incubator is not fully automated, but hopefully they will fix that in Mk 2?
