Schmidli
First of all, super excited about this game. I love source Bhop/KZ/Surf maps, and this looks like a beautiful rendition of that kind of gameplay. My question is basically how similar and how different are the movement mechanics in this game as compared to Source? Obviously there will be some differences which is a good thing, I'm just curious what kinds of skills will transfer over well.
samuguel
I'm curious too, from what i'm seeing the character move much slower in this game.
Developer MarkL Posted August 31, 2016 Developer Share Posted August 31, 2016 I was just trying to be smooth for the trailer! One of the goals in Hot Lava was to take the parts I liked out of locomotion games and wrap them in a more friendly package. Like, if the KZ community could have designed the source controller, what would they have changed? The game has Surfing/bhoping and strafe jumping in a similar way, but treated as a primary part of the controller design. One major difference between our controllers is that in Hot Lava we have rotational momentum, which does change the way many of these techniques are performed. More on all of this later

Developer MarkL Posted September 2, 2016 Developer Share Posted September 2, 2016 Basically, you look where you want to go- but your velocity doesn't snap to that direction; it takes time to rotate towards it. Managing your rotation is another key to speed running the game.
