Birch Logs

Recommended Posts

Personally I never did like "birch trees". I preferred deciduous trees and acorns, in all honesty.

I think oak trees would have been a better bet as the wood colours match, but it's a bit late now. >.<
It doesn't hinder the gameplay at all, it's just... weird.

There really is no point, you wouldnt even be able to make a campfire since it requires normal logs.

Making another campfire type for the other logs seems silly.

I Don't See Any Point At Your Statement. A Recipe That Could Use Both Logs Would Be A Solution Besides The Logs Would Open The Horizon To New Items Crafted Only By Certain Logs(Magical Stuff Or Something) While The Standard Recipes Remain The Same For Both Logs.

What if you couldn't find the type of tree you needed?

And we already have living logs. (Which are basically magical logs)

Well... Let's Never Mind The Magical Part Of My Statement. Why Not Birch Logs?

Well, it would make sense and would be more realistic, but i feel like it would be annoying at times and is not really necessary.

The Whole Part With "Where Are My Logs,Oh Yeah I Chopped Birch Trees..." Well I Agree But As You Said It Would Make Sense And It Would Be More Realistic..

The game has realism here and there. Example of realism: dying of hypothermia in winter and needing to warm up by a fire. Same example could be used for being unrealistic as people who develop hypothermia slowly actually need to be warmed up slowly to lower the risk of dying from shock, although that wouldn't be much fun - would it? :/

I can understand the points made from opposing sides, but I just don't like the idea of having lots of different kinds of logs. Admittedly the visuals do spoil the "fun" a little bit, but not enough to make a huge impact. The only feasible solution I see to the problem, Hypno, is to reskin the trees to make them brown and change the name from birch to something else (such as previously suggested oak). Unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen as the DLC is almost in full swing, and birch trees have been going on a long while.

Although I agree that the wood is a bit off, I don't think it's a big enough deal to make Klei very concerned about it. :(

I remember there were two types of items and one recipe required one of the types of them, yet you could still use the other type to craft whatever (I think this, not sure thought). So building a Campfire while requiring brown logs, but yet being able to use birch logs should be a thing, and might as well just work. And may if you could use both types of logs to craft one thing, may be the outcome would depend on how much of each type of log you use, say 2 Birch logs, 1 Brown log and you get the Birch log type of your craftable. Would be quite interresting.

But it would just take up more inventory space for no real gain. Besides, the whole logs fiasco is starting to sound like minecraft. >.<

Wow just as I was reading this thread I was thinking that Don't Starve doesn't need to become like Minecraft, then I read your post! =)

I seriously think that having 20 different log types would not bring anything more to the gameplay. We have logs and living logs and I find it perfect like that. There are much more interesting things that could be implemented to improve the gameplay before having more log types in my opinion. I would rather see the devs putting their (limited) time on improving what we already have or adding the occasional super cool idea that they (or any forumer) could think of.
