apersonwhydoesitmatter2
hello i paid extra money so that i'd be able to run a dedicated server on a separate machine by creating a world and never selecting a character. it works fine, however, there are lag spikes that seem to happen in a specific pattern every minute or so that lasts for about 2 seconds. i've tried it on different computers and different internet connections. i've hosted a server while playing on the same computer without any lag at all, so i'm thinking it has something to do with not selecting a character or something. i'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if they've found a way to fix it. not playing with a dedicated server is kind of pointless for my group of ppl. ty Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/46744-attempting-to-run-a-dedicated-server/ Share on other sites
rezecib
@apersonwhydoesitmatter2, Try adding this to the dedicated's settings.ini:enable_snapshots = false Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/46744-attempting-to-run-a-dedicated-server/#findComment-588248 Share on other sites
apersonwhydoesitmatter2
@apersonwhydoesitmatter2, Try adding this to the dedicated's settings.ini:enable_snapshots = false ok that sounds like something that would cause what i'm seeing, i'll try it. tyvm Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/46744-attempting-to-run-a-dedicated-server/#findComment-588468 Share on other sites
apersonwhydoesitmatter2
ok I did that, and indeed snapshots are disabled as they are not being created anymore in the filesystem however the problem persists, and i've found out that it only occurs while another client on the same network is connected and playing(shared single internet address). if the only game that's running on the network is this 'dedicated' game then it works fine for others on the internet. if I join with my gaming computer then it starts to go to ****, and then when I leave it's better again. when we first started trying to get a dedicated server we originally had a different person running the dedicated game on his laptop on the same network as his gaming computer, and that's when we first noticed the issue. also, when finally creating a character on the 'dedicated' game just for testing, the issue still persists this makes me think it's either an issue with 2 games sharing the same internet address or sharing the same broadcast space, dunno which Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/46744-attempting-to-run-a-dedicated-server/#findComment-588969 Share on other sites

rezecib
@apersonwhydoesitmatter2, Interesting, sounds like you've found a bug with dedicated servers, then. I'd post it in bug reports Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/46744-attempting-to-run-a-dedicated-server/#findComment-589095 Share on other sites
Thronesmelt
@apersonwhydoesitmatter2 Have you tried using a vpn (if you own one) with a different IP address on the "dedicated" computer but still connected through the same network and then normally access the host "dedicated" server with the second Gaming PC? Did that make any difference? ArchyKrule
May I ask how you got the standalone server ? You said you paid extra money ? Is the server binary to sale or something ? I thought Klei was still testing them and that they were not yet released. Thank you. Did that make any difference? i don't have a vpn, but that sounds like a good test. i did try running it on amazon's ec2 cloud since it's free but the processor power you get is too slow, i don't have a windows server anywhere Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/46744-attempting-to-run-a-dedicated-server/#findComment-592654 Share on other sites
