Very bright and very dark areas of map

I've had this issue for some time also on other maps, but this one I started a few months ago in Spaced Out is the most extreme. It's getting very distracting with the sharp contrast in brightness.

The entire oil biome and a few above are bright like hot white daylight. The issue became is even more clear on the second world with the teleport. Squares of sharp brightness and darkness. I've also loaded the game without mods and it looks the same.

What is going on? Is it supposed to look like this?

Steps to Reproduce

Been playing this map for many hours, so no exact steps, looked like this from the start as I slowly explored. Spaced out terra with default settings.

User Feedback

Ah wow if this has been an issue on Ubuntu since 2019, I guess it is not likely to be fixed soon :(

Too bad cause this issue is really distracting me from the game lately. Everything else works really well on Linux.

Oh and great observation skill in realising that it looks like the brightness map is just turned upside down!

Update: Running the game through Steam's Proton seems to work okayish and does fix the issue. The lighting looks amazing now! Didn't realise what I was missing.

Sad to see such a good game that actually supports Linux still has to be run through Proton to overcome glaring visual issues. I hope this isn't what the Steam Deck future means for Linux gaming, developers giving up on real Linux support and just relaying on proton for everything :/

From the sounds of it, nobody at Klei is capable of fixing it.

This thread had some more info:

In the past it wasn't so bad as the bright area mostly overlapped with the magma sea, but sometime during the development of Spaced Out maps got taller and this problem became glaringly hideous.
