Rocket won't land

I have a rocket that is stuck and will not land:

Saving and reloading does not help. Ordering to land from the platform also does not work.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Built a rocket with, top to bottom, capsule, small gas cargo, small solid oxidizer, sugar engine.

2. Sent it the swamp asteroid and returned.

3. Rocket was suffering from the invisibility bug on return:

4. Deconstructed and rebuild capsule.

5. Refueled, reloaded, and launched the rocket back to the swamp asteroid with roundtrip toggled on.

6. Rocket reached orbit, but did not land. By reached orbit I mean it was in the orbit hex, not over the asteroid as shown in the screenshot.

7. Mousing over the rocket icon on the starmap did not bring up any tooltips, nor could the rocket be selected by clicking on its icon.

8. From the control station, the destination showed as unselected. Selecting the asteroid it was orbiting as its destination would not set it in the same manner as if trying to set the destination to the asteroid a rocket is landed on.

9. The rocket platform on the asteroid did not show the rocket.

10. At this point I saved and reloaded the game.

11. The rocket warped one hex to where it is shown in the screenshot; showed tooltips, was selectable from the starmap, and displayed on the rocket platform.

12. Setting the destination via the control station still worked as before.

13. Ordering the rocket to land via the rocket platform results in the screenshot shown.

14. Ordering the rocket to return to the starting asteroid does not display the rocket in the platform when the rocket moves off the top of the asteroid and into orbit.

15. The rocket was able to land at the starting asteroid. However, after landing, the oxygen would only load at 411g/s even with a full duct.

User Feedback

I have also experienced this bug, twice now. In both cases the rocket can land at other asteroids, but it can't land at the one it is orbiting. To be precise, it won't select a landing pad, and going to a land pad and telling the rocket to land on it results in nothing happening. Also if the rocket is ordered into orbit, it cannot deploy the orbital cargo pods.

It is worth noting in the attached save, this is the second time I've tried to land the rocket on the home asteroid, after the first failure to land I returned to and landed on the uranium asteroid, refueled, and came back to try again, failing a second time. It still shows as being able to land on the landing pads on the uranium asteroid.

In the save the rocket which is unable to land is "The  Dazzling Prototype XV". The other rocket can land just fine. Note that Sandbox is enabled, I only enabled it to spawn in food for the trapped dupes after the first prevented landing.

I'm having this issue on a Terra start.

I was able to direct my rocket to orbit a different asteroid, and as the rocket left (moved from the origin asteroid hex to a hex on the origin asteroid orbit) I was then able to redirect the rocket to land and it landed successfully.

Adding details and maybe a workaround.

I had the same problem but was able to resolve it by reloading my game, flying the rocket out one hex into an orbit pattern, and then flying it back down to the planet.

I noticed that the rocket couldn't detect the landing pad all, it treated the planet as though it had no rocket pad even when I built extras. It could detect the landing pads on other planets, and other rockets could detect the landing pad that this one couldn't. Reloading the game by itself didn't fix the issue because I assume the rocket being on the planets hex is the "bugged" state and requires moving the rocket away to reset it. If I had to guess, I'd bet that something in code was treating the rocket as already landed, because that's how landed rockets work (they can't see landing pads on the planet they are on), without actually being landed.

Hope this fix works for other people because I couldn't find one anywhere.

I am also having this problem.

EDIT/ADDITION: My findings are similar to earlier posts: reloading the game when in orbit did nothing - the bug persisted. Reloading the game pre-launch and then flying to the planet again worked.

This just happened to me as well - a rocket got stuck on top of an asteroid without any fuel; it didn't land and was unable to go anywhere.

I reloaded a save where the rocket was a few seconds out before reaching orbit, set the target platform manually, and the rocket landed just fine.  I tried reloading a second time and didn't set the target platform, but the rocket still landed, so I guess that didn't matter. No idea whats up.

I've attached the save file where the rocket is 77 seconds away from landing just in case.

This eventually happens in every game at least once. In my current playthrough it's happened twice. As previously mentioned, if you have enough fuel you can usually reroute the rocket away from the plane it's stuck on and then land. But, if you don't have any fuel left, there's nothing you can do to fix it.

You can tell when it's happened right away. When the rocket launches, instead of showing on the space map as normal, the tile it's supposed to be in looks empty. However, you can click on it and select the rocket, view interior, change course, etc.

Of the many bugs in the game, this is one of the most annoying.

This has happened for me again in the latest public testing branch. All symptons are identical as reported earlier: rocket is stuck on top of planetoid, and can not land.

It is a very annoying bug as the only resolution is to self-destruct the rocket, and the debris and escape pods don't even land on the planetoid the rocket is hovering over, they fly to another one.
