I'm not sure whether the intended behaviour for the meteor storm trigged by the temporal tear opener is to have one shower then stop, or for the meteor cycle to be constant once started (online information is inconsistent, and different players have had the storms behave differently). However currently on my version the meteors have a regular active and dormant season cycle, like other meteors, but stop completely and permanently when the game is closed and reloaded.
This is rather unintutitive and means different players will receive different amounts of fullerene, regolith, and damage to structures based on how long their play session is.
Activate the temporal tear opener, and wait, the meteors will cycle through seasons until the game is closed, then not start again on reopen.
