Beetas attack all dupes within range on save, even if in atmo suits

meaniebeanie22
  • Branch: Live Branch Version: Windows Pending

Beetas will attack the dupe even if they are wearing an atmo suit.

Steps to Reproduce

Have a dupe in an atmo suit in the same area as some adult beetas

Save

Reload

On reload, the beetas will agro at the dupe despite them being in an atmo suit, and proceed to have all of them sting the dupe.

User Feedback

Not only dupes. Beetas will sting nearby critters too but isn't this how they suppose to work? Atmo suits were never a protection over Beetas. Nothing is. The game lagging makes it seem that way

Nothing is.

Would be nice to have a confirmation/denial from devs themselves, considering that lead suit providing protection is in the game trailer.

I don't think devs play a different game than we do. :p

If the bug was there when the trailer of playing the game was made, it's still a bug. There was no actual indication that something will shield from Beeta stings. Lead suit helps with radiation protection from Beeta hives.

I think the reason why they're wearing a lead suit in the trailer is to protect against radiation, not the beetas. Amusingly though, the level of radiation when digging in the nest is kind of negligible.

In ONI-verse where beetas are a source of radiation, having a suit that protects against both would make (too much?) sense. Not to mention the lead suit's wide "helmet" looks vaguely similar to a real-world beekeeper hat:

But IMHO more indicatively - this isn't some rando's twitch clip, this is a dev-published trailer. I'd like to believe Klei's process for producing a game's launch trailer prevents bugs, exploits or unintended mechanics from making appearance. If beetas attacking dupes regardless of suit was the desired behaviour, the clip just wouldn't show beetas and dupes simultaneously in the same room. (IIRC beetas don't just attack dupes "when they get too close",  they seek out and attack any dupes that enter the room.)

Imagine that a DST trailer had a clip where the player was walking through cave void to reach the Atrium. Or something less obvious - where a player was carrying 2 beefalo bells. IMHO that's just not a thing that would survive the trailer production process, and publication.

At the very least, the shown behaviour being a bug wasn't obvious to all the people producing the trailer after the clip was included.
