It seems that the selection square has some weird interaction with backwalls. It remains on a backwall tile even when the cursor is elsewhere.
Steps to Reproduce
Run the cursor between backwall and just background with no backwall. Notice the square indicating which tile the cursor is remain on backwall tiles

A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.
