Storage tile not respecting limit for eco battery and gear balm

Notice how my dupes managed to get 19.2t of gear balm into the window tile (at the top of the rocket interior).

Same is true for the eco power banks, maybe also for other DLC related items.

Steps to Reproduce

Create a storage tile, set it to gear balm, wait...

User Feedback

I did some more digging, and found out that the storage tile (fig1) and the storage bin (fig2) count both items (eco bank and gear balm) 1kg per item, instead of their respective weights.

Fig1, window tile, set to gear balm limited to 4kg, loading 320kg, e.g. 4x80kg

Fig2, storage bin, set to eco power bank, limited to 20kg, loading 400kg, e.g. 20x20kg20250101172110_1.jpg.8d7762add680b65c3951dcc2a2726de9.jpg

btw, if you have more of the actual mass stored than you have set on the bin when you save and load, it'll start working properly, until you start changing settings, then it gets a bit weird.

Like if you store a 1 (20kg) battery in a bin, which is set to 20kg, and save and load, the bin will be considered full. But if you increase that limit by 3 kg's after that, it'll count the first 20kg properly, but add 3 more batteries.

This kind of behavior is kind of intentional. Things like Atmo Suits, Radiation Pills, Gear Balm and Power Banks are measured in indivisible units, not in kg. So the slider on the storage is treating them as "units", not "mass", despite the "kg" at the end of the slider.

So when you want to store 10 power banks, you set the slider to 10, not 10 * MassOfPowerBank.

It's a bit weird since the slider has no way to switch the mode, and it has to deal with both things measured by mass and things measured by units. But using the slider as though it's showing units will make it much easier to put a specific number of items into a storage bin.

thanks, 2k+ hours and never realized it. I guess it's the first time I wanted to load specific amounts of stuff into each rocket and all my balm kept ending up in one rocket and none in the others caused me to pause.

Now that I know, I can do what I wanted, so it's fine I guess.

Nevertheless, as @Nematrec mentioned, the game can do it on a reload. I still feel like this is something that can be solved. Just make it such that you get less than the specified amount if it doesn't fit an integer number of items e.g. if I set my gear balm storage to 200kg, it should load 2x80kg, which is what I would consider expected behavior. But who am I....

I agree that the current system is janky and has issues. I'm not sure there's a perfect solution for it other than giving every single "per-unit" item a mass of 1kg exactly, but I have no idea what kind of knock-on effect that would have for things like the thermal transfer of atmo suits.

I had to abandon a rocket because I forgot that, after a reload, the storage now switches to kg mode, instead of item mode. I ended up not having enough batteries for the bionic dupe to survive the return flight...

Now, i'm forced to unset my battery storages in rockets and reset them befor each flight, to be sure they contain the right amount...

It swaps over to storing them by KG instead of indivisible unit if you go above the limit in KG and then save + load. There is bugged behavior here, one way or the other.
