If you're playing on a half-food setting, where the dupes only eat every 2 days on average, the morale boost from food nevertheless runs out after 1 day. That means it would be very hard to play a game with strict morale and stress requirements but lowered food requirements. Even on the default lowered difficult setting, it was annoying that my colonists were sometimes not meeting their morale requirements and I couldn't figure out why.
I really think that the morale boost from eating should last 2 days if you're on the reduced food setting.

Start a game on the Casual setting and then observe dupe morale. They often won't have any meal-related modifiers.
