Heat transfer bug

  • Branch: Live Branch Version: Windows Closed

There was a 2 tile oxegen pocket touching the magma (I opened it up in the attached figure already). The magma is ~1500 °C, while the oxegen touching it is 16 °C, and is not warming up at all. It should.

Changed Status to Closed

This is as designed. Cells do not exchange heat when less than 1 gram (1000000 mcg) due to simulation instability with small numbers.

ah, OK, thank you.

However, I found a related issue on the same planetoid.

I try to cool down the magma at the bottom of the map, automating the heat input to the steam chamber by opening-closing the mechanized airlock door. When closed, there is vacuum, a perfect insulation. There are no liquids or gases that can get in the steel door's frames and ruin the vacuum.

However, sometimes the opened door still makes contact between the two blocks (steel at the bottom, glass at top), resulting in the failure of the whole setup due to continous heat transfer with which the steam turbines cant keep up. A strange animation (like some shadow) is also present in the door's frames when the bug occurs. I checked, and there is still no liquid or gas or some debries in the gap.

If I close and open the door at this point, it clears the problem, however the whole point of automation was that I don't have to babysit the setup in the next ~300 cycle until it cools the magma down.

Picture to be added later.

That would probably be a different issue. It sounds similar to this one

Yes, I have the exact same problem as in the quoted branch, with the grey rectangels appearing in the door's frame.

Pictures added:

the door is opened, there are no gases or liquids in the door, but heat is still transfered through it.

The grey rectangles are present, as always when I noticed the bug

These rectangles are always present during the opening animation, and disappear when the door is fully opened. So probably the bug is that the opening of the door does not finish for some reason, despite of the automation.
