Crash on startup

badwin
  • Branch: Live Branch Version: Windows Pending

Just bought the game today but can't play because it typically freezes during character selection. A few times I have managed to get to the actual game but the same freeze occurs after a few seconds.

Steps to Reproduce

Hit "New Game" and proceed to character selection. Game will freeze after a few seconds.

User Feedback

Things I've tried so far:

  • Updating Nvidea drivers
  • Updating Windows 10
  • Verified file integrity through steam as well as reinstalling to a different drive
  • Deleting kplayerprefs.yaml, and all other files in the ~/Documents/Klei/OxygenNotIncluded folder
  • Running in Windows 8 compatibility mode

Things to note:

  • I have no security or antivirus software. Windows ransomware protection is disabled and I don't have any controlled folders.
  • More error messages pile up in the log the longer i leave the game frozen:

Googling these errors seems to suggest i'm running out of VRAM, but my graphics card (gtx 1080) should be beefy enough to handle the game fine. Any suggestions on what to try next?

I know your graphics card has sufficient VRAM, but could you try Low Resolution Textures and see if it works? (Options -> Graphics -> Low Resolution Textures, click Apply)

Are you overclocking your GPU? Also try turning off the GeForce experience overlay if you have that enabled. You might be able to find useful troubleshooting steps by searching "0x887A0005 game" as you'll find this happens on other games too. It seems more hardware/driver related from what I understand.
