Automation overlay is missing in Sandbox mode

When you enable Sandbox mode, the automation overlay is not available until you research automation. All overlays should be available in Sandbox mode because you can build anything.

Steps to Reproduce
1. Start a new game 2. Enable Sandbox mode
Go to bugs

Just got back into ONI again today, I concur, same problem. Still not fixed. Apparently the hotkeys aren't available either. 

Maybe the hotkeys and displays are unlocked with the research?

Started playing again in 2023 to try to learn automation in this game. Never once used it my entire time playing. Is there a work around for this yet? I find it very annoying to have to go to the build automation category and select a wire every time I just want to see the overlay.
