Algae Terrarium

the Karyonite
  • Branch: Live Branch Pending

Hi Devs,

Posted this in the comments section of Known Bugs, but then realized that this is not the proper place - so let me reiterate the problem I encounter:

Algae are being used up in the Algae Terrarium. This seems strange, since the Algae "grow" in the terrarium. If they would shrink (be used up), then what is the difference with the Algae Deoxydizer? It also does not match with the description of the Algae blocks, which says that Algae are a renewable source of oxygen (meaning it's not used up).

Either please fix that the Terrarium depletes the Algae reserves, or clarify in the Algae and Oxygen descriptions that the Terrarium only uses it more slowly than the Deoxydizer (in which case Terrarium would be a bad name and maybe Processor would be a better name).

I think it is balancing issue. If algea would in fact be reproducable, then the base is sustainable from the beginning. And the idea for it is not to be sustainable at all. Even if you think you've managed to make it so.

In my opinion Terrarium is more suitable name than Processor. Especially because they eat up CO2 also, not only emit oxygen. You can conclude then that those are living things -> and if you grow small organisms, then you have a terrarium. :)

There might be a common ground here. For example decide (via terrarium menu button) that you want to grow them instead of just using them. For this you would need to use up fertilizer or dirt or polluted dirt (I'm just brain storming here...) and have toasty environment for them. This way they would grow.

Maybe this way you can explain it for yourself? They would grow, but temperature is too low, so they're dying in terrariums.

Devs have plenty of surprises for us even now.

For example even right now Algea Terrariums won't need dupe to operate them every day with water if they are submerged. You can either construct them in the 1st tile of water or just drop water from vents on them -> works as charm. Almost self-sustaining this way.

Algae IS a renewable resource. Bio distiller creates algae and polluted water. Polluted water lying around creates polluted oxygen. Puft eats polluted oxygen and drops slime. Slime is processed in Bio distiller...
