Hi there

Not sure if it's entended but I got a map with a very (very) low amount of copper in the starting biome ( 5 or 6 tiles of copper, not more).

I ve just been able to build a battery, a wheel and a research lab.

Steps to Reproduce
start a game ;)
Go to bugs

here is the save.

I tried few other maps, and the usual amount of copper was there, so I guess it's just bad luck (but this can be challenging ;) )

Sounds like an interesting challenge :D
You can also use gold amalgam and iron ore, if copper gets scarce.
