You can get to the atrium using a lazy explorer.

Since the ancient sanctuary is inaccessible except through the whirlpool, and the atrium can't be accessed using spelunker's bridge kits, here's another way to get there without killing the giant tentacle: using a lazy explorer. I know this is a very, very old method, but since spelunker's bridge kits have been banned, I think it makes sense too. As for other teleporters, I don't know (whether they need to be mentioned or not), but as a method due to cave generation, there it is.

Steps to Reproduce

You need a well-generated map and a lazy explorer.

User Feedback

This is not a bug and should not be reported. The atrium does not disable teleportation like sanctum does.

I don't think this is a bug or an error. I know you can teleport in the atrium. I mean, using the Lazy Explorer is a way to do it, like using the Caveman's Bridge Kit—it uses cave generation in a way that allows it. I'm more inclined to think this is an oversight because the developers prohibited using the Caveman's Bridge Kit to get into the atrium.

Using lazy explorer has a cost: it's a rare item with limited durability, and it consumes sanity on each use. It also requires you to get night vision to use it to get to the atrium at all. Bridge is a cheap permanent solution. I can see why bridges are disabled (although I dislike it) but other means of teleportation in the atrium are allowed. I don't think it's an oversight, and also stop trying to ruin fun for others who use this method to get there. It's not even possible in most worldgens, you have to be extremely lucky to get one where it's feasible.

First, I want to apologize to anyone who was offended or upset by this. I didn't mean to ruin anyone's enjoyment of the game. If you're referring to the message to the guy above, I was just joking. I usually use parentheses for that sort of thing. For example: "It's a joke.") As for the game itself, in my personal opinion, it's already too easy for newbies or inexperienced players. So, if there's any way I can bring up any details to the developers that I find illogical compared to other similar things, I'll mention them. But, again, I'm not asking for a complete ban on teleportation, but rather for some kind of barrier to prevent a lazy explorer from teleporting you from the main continent of the cave directly to the atrium. For me, the atrium is essentially the lower level of the caves, just like it was in Don't Starve. So, using a lazy explorer directly from the main continent of the caves to the atrium, in my opinion, is an oversight. Whatever the developers decide, that's what will happen. I don't want to get into an argument with you (or anyone else), so I'll leave it as is and not continue this thread. Once again, I apologize if I offended anyone.

dude, try to calm down. this isnt a make-or-break situation. if the dev team doesnt want to change it then they will not change it. please don't use this as a means of letting off steam over other things you are disgruntled about it just makes the forums a more hostile place to be with no benefit to anyone.

i think most of why it is allowed is because it is a valid legacy method. while it makes less sense now sans-context it does work within the confines of the history of the series. lazy explorer was one of two legit ways to short-cut around caves(the other being to play as wortox) and was a primary purpose to upgrading the walkingcane. the stuff with the bridges was to remove an exploit that could really hurt the player if they were not mindful(i myself got softlocked once doing it) and not having it be a shortcut to the atrium was additional not primary in its functions. personally i'd like the lazy method to stay but i do see why a newer player wouldnt see the purpose to it

Except the atrium never was a different level of the caves. Even the means used to get to the atrium are the same as teleporting underground around the rest of the cave map: by entering a giant tentacle wormhole. You are confused by the introduction of the sanctum area and think that all cave "islands" should now behave in the same manner. But atrium is simply just another branch of the ruins with its bridge collapsed. If you generate and explore a lot of cave maps, you will find out that there's another "room" in the caves, usually somewhat triangular-shaped, that always spawns on the map and counts as atrium. It has bridges disabled there as well (that's how I know it counts as atrium part) and always spawns with a cave hole, a few lichen plants and a few lightbulbs. That room always points to the atrium and is a proof that atrium is just a part of the ruins.

This is why I believe the Atrium is the lower level of the ruins. From April 7, 2017, Don't Starve Together: A New Reign. Patch notes: "Discover the secret entrance to the new Atrium zone inside the Caves and unlock the mysteries lying deep within the Heart of the Ruins". There used to be a blog from the developers, but unfortunately it doesn't open. I don't believe that every single island should behave the same way as an ancient sanctuary.

Although if you look at it this way:

Then you could say it's the center of the ruins. But if the atrium is located far away from the ruins, then I am inclined to believe that it is under the ruins.

I think if they wanted to implement it as a separate level like they did with sanctum they would have done it long ago already. Selectively disabling some methods of reaching it (especially the method available to all characters, including the non-teleporting ones) is unnecessary and unhealthy for the game balance. It would be also super unfair to do this because teleporting characters will still be able to access atrium "not the intended way through the tentacle".

DST is always the most fun when people are allowed to do things in unconventional ways and find different solutions to they challenges presented by the game. Limiting player freedom just because "this is not the intended way" is not fun.

I haven’t seen anything to indicate that the atrium is canonically on a different level than the ruins. As mentioned above, the tentapillar connection seems to imply an even level to the rest of the cave system.
