Error During Initialization

I downloaded Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together through Steam and every time I open either of the games the window will go black and and error will come up and all it says is Error During Initialization and won't open the game. I'v tried a lot to fix this, reinstalling the game many times, reinstalling steam, verified integrity of game cache. If anyone knows what to do to fix it please help.

Opening the game through Steam, Open it through steam maybe

Hello @davidwahlen, welcome to the forums. Here's the Klei Support Article that might help you. What I want you to try specifically is the following:

You may want to try re-running installers if:

  • I can't start the game
  • .exe program crashes
  • I get a black screen

Re-install DXSetup in folder:
C:\Progarm FIles\Steam\steamapps\common\Don’t Starve Together\DXRedist\DXSETUP

Re-install VCRedist in folder:
C:\Program FIles\Steam\steamapps\common\Don’t Starve Together\VCRedist

 

There could be other reasons as to why this is happpening. If the method above doesn't work, can you check if the game generates a client_log.txt under Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether? If it gets generated, please attach it to your next reply.
