dontstarve_steam.exe has stopped working

I have currently the same problem.
I don't know if you are using discord?
Because mine suddenly can't run together with discord anymore.
I ran it before together with discord (like 2 days ago and it worked fine).
Now I have to completely close discord and then the game wants to run again.
This is of course hopefully only a temporary fix.

Yes, I do use discord. And closing discord and then starting the game worked. Something else I figured. If I start another game, like any game, and then start DST, it also works.

I think it is the discord overlay that is messing up the game, I removed that and it runs fine.
So you can disable in-game overlay and it will work together with discord.

I'm trying to track down some more details on how you're able to cause this crash to happen. Is this mainly occurring directly after rebooting the system?

Does it happen if you reinstall Discord too?

@PeterA Here's another report by @MiloGutierrez (mistakenly posted in Don't Starve Bug Tracker), wherein the crash appears to be caused by Discord too, in case you might need the extra logs and .mdmp files to help with diagnosing the issue further. I've also mentioned this bug report to Milo and hopefully they can come in here and give more information needed.

Owkej, here's an update after reinstalling discord and some testing.
This is how the problem works for me.

Discord has two versions, discord and the discord bèta (also called discordPTB).
The problem seems to be only with discordPTB.
In discord (both versions) there is this thing called in-game overlay.
Accessible through the gearwheel (options) -> Overlay -> Enable in-game overlay.
(There is also the option to not do this for a specific game through gearwheel (options) -> Games -> Computerscreen icon).

In the 'normal' discord this doesn't really do anything while in game.
In discordPTB it gives you what is shown in the images. This enables you to see certain servers and join their voice channels while in game.
(These images are not from Don't Starve Together as it crashes when trying to show this).

Conclusion: Don't Starve Together crashes when discordPTB tries to enable its in-game overlay on Don't Starve Together.
As the problem is only consisting in the bèta version of discord they might still fix this before actually pushing this through to the main version.

Again, this is how the problem works for me! (This might of course be different for other people!)

Edit: Discord is aware of this problem on several other games, they seem to be working on this.

I use discordPTB too but I don't have the overlay enabled on any game. Even then without closing discord and starting just any other game and then starting Don't Starve Together does the trick for me. This is wierd.

Did you try reinstalling discord? And swapping to 'normal' discord, does that work?
Cause if it's only in the PTB I don't think it is for the don't starve staff to solve it.

Update to this:

The in-game overlay of discordPTB seems to be working for me now.
Either a discord or a don't starve update fixed it.
If anyone still has trouble try and update discord as well as don't starve.

Yup, looks like there was a Discord update that addressed the issue. Thanks everyone for helping track down the source of the crash!
