Corrupted Mod Files

Oxiah
  • Known Issue

So I've tried everything, from the guides on safe booting and deleting the mod files, launching steam and the game via administration powers to reinstalling the game, the mods and everything else. I've contacted support and they have not found any problems with the logs I've provided. It is quite the interesting bug. Images provided below on how it looks like.

Additionally, the mods do get saved in the workshop folder but do not get transferred into the DST Folder, not allowing them to load. I have no idea why this happens and I tried to manually put them in and rename them but nothing worked.

Mods that pop us as corrupted:
The Engineer by Goat Slice
Combined Status by rezecib
Simple Health Bar DST by DYC

Note: These mods were added before the recent terraria update meaning they should've worked.

Steps to Reproduce

Honestly I have no idea how this happened in the first place. I once redownloaded the game along with mods and it just happened.

the mods do get saved in the workshop folder

can you post a picture of the contents of the one those workshop mods in the workshop folder that's showing up in dst as "workshop-xxxxxxxxxxx" in the mods list?

Yep, here it is. I've checked in some of the folders and found out this is The Engineer mod. All of the animation files etc are in the corresponding folders.

I have a similar problem and I've tried everything to no avail...
On my side though the mods wont even appear inside the mods folder...
image.png.1a82c9205325c8979872172270cf4220.png

Although they do appear under the 'Server Mods' section of the menu inside the game. As you can see some of the mods like "No thermal stone duration (466732225)" do work and are listed inside the 'Mods' folder.
image.thumb.png.94a102838d4f54af641f8210c7d1bd28.png
(All of the 'Client Mods' work.)

For these ' Compatibility unknown' mods like the 'Epic Healthbar (1185229307)' or 'Automatic Chest Sorting (2321974509)' nothing seems to work.
I have tried:
1) Updating the mod with the button shown above
2) Unsubscribing and resubscribing
3) Restarting my PC
4) Inserting ServerModSetup("1185229307") into the dedicated_server_mods_setup.lua file.
5) Updating my AMD drivers (and restarting my PC)
6) Verifying the integrity of game files
7) Changing the Don't starve together folder and all subfolders/files permissions to full control to everyone
image.png.536b89e440c423493a06e0e2c67ddfe3.png

Still nothing works. It still says 'Compatibility unknown' and I cannot fix it for the life of me. Please help :(

My setup is:
AMD RX 580 Series 8GB
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core processor
16 GB memory
DirectX 12

Hi @devon752. The 1185229307 mod you mentioned has been updated, has anything changed on your side? The mod update is not related to this issue, but I figured there may be some helpful behind the scenes changes in the recent game update.

Hello, @Tykvesh I really think your mod is cool btw.

As for the issue unfortunately it still persists. But it's not just your mod, it's other newer mods as well (picture below shows yours and the Automatic chest sorting mods). Even one that I mocked up really quick and uploaded shows the same problem. I have no issues when manually installing the mods inside the "mods" folder but when it's through the workshop it seems to either displace them or something. Additionally it's only half of them and only for me and a couple of others. It is the weirdest thing I've seen in my life and I'm pretty good with computer issues usually and solving them myself one way or another. But this one just boggles my mind.

Some additional information I forgot to mention in the post above. I'm on w10 with all required updates installed. The mod does appear inside the "...SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content\322330" location when subscribed but it doesn't appear inside the "...SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together\mods" location like the others do.
I think this might be the issue but again not sure why only for a couple of people like myself...

The only workaround I found is to take the mod from the "322330" folder and manually place it inside the "mods" folder with a custom name. I named it "Epic Healthbar" and then it worked inside the game (but then other people on the server need to do the same thing if they want to play with the mod). Additionally, if I placed it inside with the same nomenclature as the others, AKA "workshop-1185229307" then it would be automatically deleted from the "mods" folder and ofc wouldn't work again. The only time it doesn't get deleted is when it thinks it's a custom mod not listed on the workshop.

@devon752 it's completely normal that some mods are located in the 322330 folder. Sometime this year the devs changed the mod system, and all mods updated since then appear there.

I assume you have already seen this support article, but I'll link it just in case.

Pretty sure anyone with corrupted files and already tried everything on the article come to the forums to look for a way to solve this issue. Ill make a rand assumption that this has to do with reinstalling the game and doing something with the mods themselves like unsubscribing from them. Again, just a theory.

I have the same issue. Reinstalling the game and unsubscribing does not help. Most of my "Client Mods" work too, I have no idea how to fix it. Didn't know it was common though, which makes it worse :(

Changed Status to Known Issue

Has there been any updates on the issue since your last comment? I really wanna get back to this game and modding was a bigger up-side for me.

Unfortunately not yet, there appears to be some file permission issue that I am unable to find any explanation or reason as to why its occurring, or an option on how to fix it. I'm still looking though!
