you dont have to be snarky about it... the boat clearly is firmly wedged in place and doesnt move at all, yet gets a leak instantly from a wave touching it. this doesnt look like it should happen

The land is an obstacle. The wave pushes it, it gains a whole lot of speed and with nowhere to go, it hits the dock. (I mean, just look at how the Malbatross can send your boat halfway to Siberia with roughly the same amount of waves.)

That only makes sense in programming sense: boat gains velocity when its hit by a wave.

But it makes no general sense: boat didn't move, it did not accelerate, it had no speed from the beginning to the end.

The programming doesn't reflect a sensible boat behavior, hence, an issue.

A fix i would recommend is

wave hit boat with a velocity V

if boat cannot move in the direction of V because of existing shore or dock
{
    wave is ignored
}
else
{
    do wave thing as usual
}
