Ability to make all things made of metal ores out of refined metals

Recommended Posts

So, in late game, I have loads of refined metal and hardly any metal ores. Refined metal is renewable, while it seems as though regular metal ores are not. This is all well and good but, for some reason, you cannot build most machines with refined. Why is that, exactly?

One reason i can think of is confusing the materials for regular and conductive wires. Would make no sense to make regular wires out of refined metal. I guess they should just make it an exception.

At least we can now use steel for raw metal. With meteors and carbon asteroids steel is not that hard to get infinitely. Also there`s a steel asteroid out there not that far away.

My other idea was to be able to "unrefine" materials or at least, at its heart, to get more raw metals

Unrefining metal ore does not make sense to me. However, it does make sense that you should be able to do everything with refined ore that you can do with unrefined ore.

But I do agree that it does not make sense to build 1kW wire with refined ore, since you can build 2kW conductive wire with the same amount of refined ore.

Maybe it would be appropriate to remove conductive wire from the game and instead give refined ore a +100% wattage overload bonus, so that wire built with refined ore acts exactly the same way as conductive wire now does?
