Tile Texture and conveyer sorter

Is it too much work to apply different texture to different materials in the game? For example, apply map default remains tile texture (greenish cubic) to obsidian and so on. Of course this brings the issue to all different type of tiles but might be worth it?

 

Also I feel there should be a conveyer sorter to sort out different material along the rail, something like pipe element sensor and shut-off velve combination or filters. I am using a set of loaders and sweepers to do this, but doesn't look too efficient.
