Building Automation connectors (signal input or output?)

For some buildings like Metal Refinery where the "automation" outlet has it going in for disable by automation grid.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the metal refinery offer a 'smart' active output rather than a disable input signal.
(or maybe an option to choose what the input and out signals are).

Instead of using a pressure plate under the building to figure out if its active or not- allow an output sensor indicating it is active.
