lurkinglurker
... and yet they float about aimlessly deep within the pool of CO2/chlorine/whatever, ignoring the sea of p.O2 just a few squares away. That has the side effect of making every Puft I've dug out into grouchy grandpas, simply because of the large volumes of non p.O2 air my dupes brought with them. My suggestion is this: Add a little "food-seeker" algorithm into the Pufts' pathfinding. Make it "sense the air around it" and "seek out food to inhale"... by bumping up the probability of a puft ending its movement near any little patch of p.O2. Of course, some randomness should still be there in a pufts' drifting, but having the pufts stopping more often than not at a spot where it can eat can only help matters. It may seem like a small thing, but I do believe it'll make pufts a lot less grouchy (and hungry).
