Can't connect to server.

Recommended Posts

I want to play with my gf and I can't connect to her server. It just says "server not responding". Anyone can help out with this?

Everything is "run as administrator", no firewall interfering (entirety of steam whitelisted). Ping is ??? on the server.

We tried to simulate lan over hamachi and it works that way. But we have a world pretty far in that is online and we don't want to abandon it. And also we shouldn't have to.

Any suggestions/questions that could help us out?

I've seen that thread. And many other threads. I googled like mad before posting here.

We tried disabling antivirus and firewall. We can play other games on steam together. We can join a different server together. Another friend also couldn't connect to her server.

We use absolutely no mods.

Edit: Setting it to public does not help. Here's a pic attached of what it looks like. This is our "test world" that's the reason it's day 3. Our main world is quite far (for us) and we'd really like to not have to restart and play on my server because she can connect to my world easily.

Alternatively is there a way for her to transfer her world to me?

In that case, something, a setting maybe could be different on her PC. I'm not sure exactly what.

Yes there is a way, but you'll have to go into the internal game files

-Go to her game folder: Documents/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether

There you should be able to see all the saved severs under the names "Cluster_1", Cluster_2"...

note: I'm using a Mac but it shouldn't be any different on a Windows PC.

-Go into her game, look at where the saved game is you want to transfer (1st game, 2nd game..)

-Close the game and go back into her game folder. The numbers behind the "Cluster_" represents the sever number in game (if the game is your first game in the list, it will be saved as "Cluster_1")

-Copy the server folder you want to transfer to a USB-stick. Now go to your computer.

-Open the game and go to your list of games. Choose a server you want to delete and/or add a new server. Now you can adjust the setting if you want to, choose the name, game mode.. etc. If you had adjusted forest or caves presets, change them as well, since they won't be copied. You can also adjust the presets if you didn't like them in the game. Don't forget to add caves if your world had caves! Otherwise it won't work!

Check the spot your server is on (First in the list, second in the list..)

After doing that, generate the world and exit immediately. Quit the game as well

-Now go to your game files: Documents/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether

Go to the Cluster file of the game you just created ("Cluster_whatever spot your created server was on") and delete all the files you see. Then go to her cluster folder in the USB-stick, and copy everything that's in it to the "Cluster_whatever spot your created server was on".

-Start the game up again and you'll see the new server ready to roll :)

The only thing that you don't have control of is that you'll be playing as her character now, unless you despawn her using console commands. This removes all of the character's stats though. I'll try and look for a way to change it without doing so, but for now this is all I can tell you

Hahaha thanks. This is great. I actually had an idea last night that I log into her steam account and she logs into mine, but this is better.

Yeah that's what I'd like to figure out. Could cause problems for other games as well, so I don't want a bandaid solution.
