Hand washing queue!

Recommended Posts

I don't think they'll implement it because there is a current solution. Here's a solution if you needed one:

Spoiler

This is working with 40 dupes, so its pretty fail safe. If you have around 16 dupes one checkpoint should be fine. The basic principle is when they wash their hands, they activate the weight plate and a signal gets sent to close the checkpoint. I didn't do the automation overlay but it goes weight plate -> not gate  -> checkpoint

Also, it's one of the few uses I've found for the checkpoint. I like using all the machines in my bases so I kind of like it how it is.

For early game, just build equal number of washbasins and outhouses, works fine most of the time.

It's surprisingly easy thing to ask for, and surprisingly hard thing to implement right (i.e. to avoid people being confused about it and asking for a different implementation. For example, what if the dupe waiting in queue starts to suffocate? In case of the gate above, he'll die. But it'll be the fault of the player who built it. If that was default implementation, people would complain.

This is exactly why they shouldn't. Further complications would be plumbing issues. Blocked / empty pipe? Sounds like dupe purgatory to me. At least with the weight plate the only thing that can block it is debris/dupes.

So then make the queue a checkbox making people like me panic less and alleviating the bogus default implementation pressure as well. The long "ready-period" between hand-washes are an issue as well I find.

I realize that there are more pressing issues anyway, like the geyser effectiveness, next to that this is a mild nuisance :)

Not to say that this doesn't sound like a nice feature, but it doesn't seem terribly necessary to prioritize. I don't know how many dupes you like to have in your bases, but my last base with 14 dupes to cycle 300 never had a problem with only 2 lavatories serviced by 2 sinks.
