kertinker
One of the things I found about this game is that you have to spend charcoal, crow feathers, and reeds to make a map scroll, and then it's consumed by the first person to look at it. So a game with say, 4 people, you'd need each person to generate 3 map scrolls in order to share their map, which is 12 charcoal, 12 jet feathers, and 48 reeds. That's assuming nobody accidentally reads two of someone's scrolls, which is easy to do, since they're all named "Map Scroll." Unless you have a reed trap, it's cheaper resource-wise to just have everyone explore the map redundantly, rendering the cartography desk almost entirely useless. So, the Global Positions mod is superior to mine in every way, automatically shares the map and lets you mark (temporary) waypoints for each other. But I wanted to try my hand at modding, so I thought I'd make the cartography desk a little less completely pointless. Basically, map scrolls don't get consumed from viewing them. You can craft 1 per person, everyone can read it, then you can toss it into the fire for some fuel. At a total of 16 reeds for 4 people, that's a bit more reasonable a cost, I think... I also tossed in a thing that names the scrolls according to their author and date, instead of making you inspect each individually to see which one's which. I didn't add a durability to map scrolls, because they're naturally limited in use, since everyone only needs to read them once. There is another mod (not mine) that adds durability to feather pencils. Status: works for me, tested it in caves. reuse_mapscroll.zip Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/88695-reusable-map-scrolls/ Share on other sites
