Neotuck
I like using hatches for coal production early game. Problem is by the time I have plastic to make the traps I have moved past needing coal for power. I have studied hatch behavior and found a way to "bait" hatches to the rooms you want by taking advantage of their burrowing instinct. In the picture below I left a tile of fertilizer in the latrine (first room I built) any hatches loose in my base with no were to go would return here to burrow every morning Here I found 3 hatches far below my base and wanted to move them to the latrine with the others So I began building a path... RELEASE THE HATCHES!!! They have a far way to go, travel up the tile stairs, and across the base to reach the latrine Only half a cycle and it's 2 down and one to go! Success! now I have 8 hatches in the latrine, No traps used! Richetoku
One thing I do is build a pneumatic door 2 tiles lower at the end of their walking area. They jump down on the tile below the door and get stuck where the door is. I build another door at a lower level I want them to be and destroy the tile under them to gather them on the lower floor. Then set the door to open and they walk out. I used to do it by having them walk down tiles, but the door trick works faster to get them down to lower levels. I use sand when dropping hatches to lower levels, they burrow in the sand and then I make sure the path under the sand is clear then break the tile, The hatch falls with the sand to were I want it Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/87342-moving-hatches-early-game-without-traps/#findComment-1001957 Share on other sites
