Fishslap
I am missing some banal action in certain respects. I really like the game and have been playing it to death for days, but my games tend to get sort of, not boring exactly, but routine. At least up to a point. Obviously you can be very creative with this game already, so maybe that's just not my strongest suit. But I would really love some more drama, like fires, larger creatures (8 tile duplicant-eating slugs crawling around would be amazing, although you have to make them avoidable somehow I suppose), more functional (or even not so functional) items for your duplicants to find and use. But above all I have to demand explosions. I want whizbangs! If a 5KG pressurized pocket of hydrogen pushes itself into a tiny hole to fill a vacuum, you'd think something slightly more dramatic would occur than at present. Popped eardrums is the main thing that's happened to me so far because of gas pressure, and that passes. Why can't it be theoretically possible to do something so horribly wrong that half your base blows up? Again, inside asteroid. Things that regularly crash into planets and other highly dramatic things. No need to be humdrum. Anyway, so far I have killed dozens of duplicants by starvation, two by accidentally being trapped in chlorine outside a tunnel I was digging and one by drowning, because I forgot he was down there and removed the ladder. To be quite frank, this doesn't sound very dramatic to me, given the premise of the game. It's basically an exercise in food production to me more than anything, because starvation is easily the one thing most likely to kill your minions. Running out of water sucks, but as far as can tell they don't immediately need water to survive. Although they'll die from disease eventually if you do run out I imagine. It's just too safe, again given the premise Klei have chosen for this game. I mean, maybe mysteriously manifesting inside an asteroid, conveniently equipped with digging and building tools, would become routine in real life. Humans are strange. But this is a video game. No need to conform to the depressing realities of real sentient existence. After all, that's what entertainment is for. Anyway, I had some other notes after initial play, but most of them I now realize were written due exclusively to my embarrassing noobishness. I might have some more shortly. Or indeed not so shortly. Plumbing, as it turns out, is not exactly my strong suit either. I sometimes wonder what exactly my strong suit is. But just successfully hooking up a bathroom without making duplicants shower in the toilet water feels like a major accomplishment still. Maybe I should take acting lessons... Nebbie
I'm sure we'll get some reasons to actually use the attack button one day besides removing extra morbs. I personally hope for alien attacks and buildable defenses, or at least some beasties that are sneaky and not just another resource to gather. You actually can have some pretty bad things happen if you run out of water, since currently water electrolysis is the only sustainable way to generate oxygen without a crazy morb+puft farm. I'm sure that eventually mealwood will require watering and maybe dupes will even need to drink, and then we'll be hosed. Oh, and don't bother with showers, they currently do nothing but waste time and produce heat (the grimy debuff has no effects), just set up some lavatories and sinks with a water sieve to recycle the water (closed loop with a bridge, pipe off from the pure water line at the input of the bridge to remove excess) and you're set. Fishslap
Good point. A bit hard at first to know which things have an effect or not, so I tend to build one of most things just in case. Anyway, I need plumbing practice, so don't mind doing that part even if it's pointless. Working on hydrophonics right now, and that's been going alright. I like your ideas for dramatics though. Alien or bio attacks and defense systems would be amazing. Don't know why, but I keep imaging a big, cartoony grub crawling around, digging tunnels and eating duplicants. Maybe I should see someone.
