Hey @Andrewjd8, welcome to the forums. As the crash screen says there is a corrupt session file which causes the game to crash. The only workaround I've seen done for this is to go into your files and find the specific session file and delete it. Based on the crash screen, the session file you should delete is called "0000000038" and it should be in Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\client_save\session\15243BB35FBCE447\.

So delete the corrupted save file session and everything should work now. I hope that helps, cheers.

I'm so terribly sorry @Andrewjd8, I should've placed a warning about the possible repercussions of deleting files. Sometimes, from what I've seen happen before to other users  deleting a session would revert the world to a previous game session but in your case it completely removed everything. I'm sorry.

But as far as I know, once a game session is corrupted, there is no way to get it back.

You could try and restore the deleted session file by accessing your Recycle Bin and right clicking the session file and Restore (I hope you haven't wiped that yet). But it'll still be a corrupted save session.

Then in game, check if you can roll back the world a day or two in the Host Game screen, you might lose a few days of progress but not everything would be gone at least. I'm not entirely sure it would work though, worth a try.

So sorry again for suggesting drastic measures first without any warnings.

It's alright, appreciate the apology. For future reference is there anything i shouldn't do or could do to stop this from happening again? Because this is the 4th world this months that it has happened on.

also reverted the file and the world stayed deleted and just a new world, damn.

@Andrewjd8 yep, I only get notified with mentions so thanks. Sorry again about the loss of your worlds.

In the years since DST was still in BETA, I personally have never come across anything specific thing that primarily causes a save file session to be corrupted. To me it feels random, but the devs themselves may have a better understanding of it than I do. It could be multiple reasons ranging from mods conflicting with the saving sequence, closing dst while it's still saving, unexpected crashes while game saves, etc.

If it happens again, report it to the bug tracker with a copy of your client_log.txt (under Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether) and server_log.txt files (under Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\DATA\Cluster_#\Master, where # is the slot # of the server in the Host Game screen) right after it crashes. There may be some log information there that shows what led up to the save file corruption possibly.

As a precaution, you can try and always manually trigger the save sequence of the server before you quit instead of letting the game auto save on its own. To do this simply open console (tilde sign "~") then type and enter the following command then wait for the saving sequence to be over:

c_save()

Based on the screenshots you posted, I know you don't have any mods on active for the server but try and avoid adding too much mods if you ever want to try out mods in the future cause sometimes mods may conflict with each other and cause further mess.

Are you on Windows 10? I remembered that if you have OneNote active for your windows, it messes with your Documents folder and changes its location to elsewhere on your PC thereby messing with the save directory of DST and that alone could also be a cause (I'm just guessing). So disable it if you have it.

Other than those things, I'm stumped. Just to be safe, attach the last three latest client_log.txt files found under Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\backup\client_log and another last three latest of the server_log.txt filesunder Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\DATA\Cluster_#\Master\backup\server_log, where # is the slot # of the server in the Host Game screen. That may help determine what went wrong for your save session to be corrupt (it's a long shot though).

And hopefully it'll be helpful to the devs to figure out a way to reduce the chances of save session files from corrupting in the future.

@Zillvr Im going to do the last 6 since the 3 from 11/17/2017 are from today after I deleted the world and reinstated it, thus creating a new world and probably rendering any data from the original world and its particular crashes. Also yes we do use mods on the server i'll list the ones at the time of the crash, our 5th play through we'll probably just not use mods, I just found since I have 400 hours on the game i'd try and make it different than my other play through and add some.

I figured since all of these did relatively different things they wouldn't conflict with each other. But that's probably why I was never too good at modding Skyrim.

Also again thanks for all your help on this. My girlfriend and I really appreciate it.
