People who wanna play a longer time at once, especially with friends go on a private, passworded server so griefers can't join. That's the reason you mostly find short term survivors and griefers on public servers that basicially play hide and seek with their bases. You can try the "Breaking Notices" mod, that Prevents structures from getting destroyed and notifies globally that someone just tried it: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=624986374 Not sure if it also prevents chests from gettign looted.
