The Plum Gate
Gravity fed, accepts filtration medium, only passes so much liquid through at a given rate and only does so at certain pressure. Maybe when the water pressure/mass is greater than that which can be mopped up? doesn't allow gasses to pass through when water is above it. Sand goes in, polluted dirt comes out, or it could just cease to pass liquid without manual reload of filtration medium. Give it same hardness as sedimentary rock for extra planning requirements, or make it out of metal. some "Maximum upper load" value
