Overview of my 1500 Day Map

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to post a pic of my current world map. I am building my first ever mega base world and though this map wasn't perfect, I've really tried to make it unique. I was hoping to see others post an overview of their map to help me get more creative and figure out how I am going to fill the rest of the map.  I am a little over 1500 days with this map.

Looks good -- especially the 1-UP mushroom!

My first suggestion is to identify the location of the tumbleweed spawners and build wall cages around them.  You can put 1 space between the walls, and the tumbleweeds won't get out.  Cage an area at least 2x2 turfs, since the tumbleweeds spawn a random distance from the spawner and might end up outside the cage if it's too small.  I think my cages were 5x5 turfs.  Then decide how you want to connect the cages with roads for faster collection.

Edit: Oh, you probably want to know how to find the tumbleweed spawners!  As an oversight, they have a construction footprint even though they aren't physical objects - something that's been fixed in DST.  You can swing the build shadow for any large structure around the desert landscape and note the empty places where you can't build: those are most likely either tumbleweed spawners or vulture spawners.

I have a screen shot from when I planned my tumbleweed cages and roads.  Unfortunately, the forum doesn't display images directly from Steam community, and Photobucket made 3rd-party hosting a paid feature, so the best I can do is post a link.

I also have a shot from day 1020, after I'd finished building the roads.  I didn't get around to building the boss arena marked in pink on the plan, but the rest is done.

The second thing I'd suggest is boss arenas with cobblestone floor in places you're most likely to be when they show up.  I have one place in the forest near my winter walrus hunting camp, and another in the desert that I can reach at the first warning of bearger.  That's an old world from before I grew comfortable with summer, so it has no summer and no dragonfly.  If you have to contend with dragonflies, you'll likely want a suitable fireproof arena for fighting those, too.

Otherwise?  Maybe an off-site location for knocking down trees with the Old Bell?  My new logging site is at a wormhole in the patchwork biome where there's nothing fragile around, and it's easy to reach from my winter camp.  I just throw the pinecones through the wormhole, set them on fire, extinguish, save & load, and have thousands of lag-inducing saplings crammed together in one place without the need to plant them.  Trouble is, it requires either some source of fire immunity you would not believe how much damage a thousand burning pinecones can do and a luxury fan, or a very carefully placed flingomatic that can put out the pine cones without getting crushed by biiigfoot.  I made a test world and built a giant square of wood walls around a wormhole to find the safe ring where biiigfoot never steps.  I also placed a couple stone walls to force the pinecones to leave a clear path I could walk through.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! First off, I want to say I really like your map! I should have done what you did and marked what all the places were on my map. I'm going to link a new picture with everything marked out. Beware, I am a noob and used paint and it is not very gloriously labeled.

I'm currently using the controller glitch to farm trees at my lumber yard, which is the area right underneath the circle of spiders set piece (that I had to make on my own, died completing it, didn't realize my spider hat was about to expire.) Made a nice little tent and campfire set up next to my skeleton in the middle of that set piece for the memory...lol.

Thanks for the tip about the tumbleweed spawners! I love to farm them and will definitely jump on that.

I currently tend to fight deerclops near the reed trap, bearger near the killer bees, dragonfly I have two fire pits set up and I basically lock him up between them, and moosegoose, if I can ever get her to even spawn, is so easy I don't really need anything to kill her. The roads though are definitely a good idea and I am going to set some up near my swamp reed set and my two endothermic fire pits to help with kiting dragonfly.

I am almost at 1800 days now as I type this and I am about to start working on a mini base between my main big camp and the beefalo spawn, near the Totally Normal Tree.
