Jonathan Hoffman
So, wouldn't it be cool if you'd (every now and then) come across another base in some state of disrepair? When you first notice it on the edge of your vision, you'd, see the dupes inside slowly going crazy or vomiting themselves to suffocation. You might be able to dig to them in time, maybe save one or two dupes - but they'd be 100% stressed out so absorbing them in might prove challenging. Seems like it might be a fun dynamic to add to the game. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/76294-finding-derelict-bases/ Share on other sites
scientas
For story purposes this is intriguing. I mean, the dupes have to come from somewhere. This might be in DLC territory though where they introduce a VS mode where you are competing with another base for resources and combat is more of a thing. Perhaps the mythology behind ONI is that the three duplicates coming in periodically are the survivors from other bases who have figured out how to link their printer pad to yours. You're basically saving one of them if you accept a dupe and dooming all three if you reject them all. Either way two of them are always toast. If you think about it, your starting base is essentially a derelict base (printing pad, a few tiles and a mostly empty food container) that has nearly decomposed back into the environment. Surprised you don't find skeletons when you dig in the area... mr_anderson
i like all ideas. Would be cool to see abandoned and close to extinction bases, maybe they would contain storage containers with resources in them or perhaps alien technology that could be studied (this would have to be fairly rare), Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/76294-finding-derelict-bases/#findComment-886296 Share on other sites

Also you could have your dupes repair the derelict base to create an "away station". if you got the base up and running again though would you have dupes there as well from a second printing pad? Might be a good way to introduce the rare super-dupe (with one maxed out stat and description, like human back-hoe with 20 digging or strongman with 20 strength) as a reward for taking the time to fix the base. Jonathan Hoffman
It would also be an interesting dynamic to not know before entering a second base if the dupes there might be hostile to your dupes. Kindof a risk/reward thing. But yeah, I think it might be fun to have to decide if you want to let this other base die out before going in, or if you ready to try and absorb a few fully stressed out, probably diseased dupes that are at the end of their rope. GreenGasBlaster
I think this would be pretty cool almost like finding the random rooms in rimworld.
