My Guys Should Have Died Long Ago

Recommended Posts

So me and my friend were playing and then my friend says yay i have a lot of oxygen. I ask how much and he replies about 3000 kg. I say damn son. So i hap on Google https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=what+is+the+max+pressure+a+human+can+take&* then i see the most pressure a human can take is 191 ponds so then i convert that into kilograms here https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=pounds+to+kilograms&* and i get about 86.6. I then multiply this by 36 assuming its a yard per block making them just under 6 feet tall. so 86.6 x 36 = 3,117.6 Now this is equal to about 13 atmospheres of pressure and without these dupes having extensive training on how to deal with it and them not having the correct equipment they all should have exploded a long time ago.

Is this 3000 kg per square? Or 3000 g? The latter is more likely. In any case, since gases don't mix, you can have squares with a few mg of gas, or even vacuum near a gas pump, which isn't healthy for a dupe to be exposed too either :p I say take it with a pinch of salt

Lets say that the height of the duplicants is 6foot (ie one square has side length 3ft (0.9144m))

Therefore from the height of the duplicants we can say V= 0.9144^2 = 0.83612736 = 0.836m^2

I'll be using PV =nRT ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideal_gas_law ) where P is the pressure, V is the volume available, n is the number of moles of gas, R =8.31 (The gas constant, taken from my physics book) and T is the absolute Temperature in Kelvin.

with 3000kg (3,000,000g)and 3000g (I'll do both) of oxygen which has Mr(O2) = 2*Ar(O) = 32g/mol.

This means we have n=93750 mols or n=93.75 mols of O2 respectively.

Lets say the temperature was at a normal 25 degrees C or 298K

Then P(0.836)=[93750,93.75]8.31(298)

Meaning the pressures would be 278e^6Pa for 3000kg or 278e^03Pa for 3000g at room temperature

1atm = 101325Pa

Meaning 3000kg would give us a pressure of 2740atm

And 3000g would give us a pressure of 2.74atm <-- which is much more reasonable (NB the factor of 1000 difference between the answers is because rather than having 3kg of oxygen, you have 3 tonnes xD (Thats like 3 small cars))

This says about 10atm is the max (other websites give around the same number) so I think it would be safe to say 3000kg of O2 contained in one square would kill you, and in the 3000g (which is more likely of the two) you should be fine xD
